Difficulty level for games

I've been playing a lot of games lately and I noticed a pattern in my gaming, I would always select the "easy" difficulty level, this made me wonder if selecting "easy" as your difficulty level detracts a bit from the overall fun and excitement of the game.

I normally start on hard and then scale down depending on how it goes. Halo 3 ODST i played on Heroic first time and didn't adjust the difficulty. Dragon Age i started on Hard and quickly dropped it down to normal, at one point even Easy.:o I like a challange, if a game is challenging on easy the play it on that, if it isn't then scale up. The idea is to enjoy the game, there is no point playing the game on hardcore XXX if ur not going to enjoy it coz you have to set quick save and quick load to the left and right mouse buttons to get anywhere.

Usually I play on Medium. Generally "medium or "normal" is the intended way to play the game.

Only games like COD, ARMA, OPERATIONFLASHPOINT, SPLINTER CELL etc, I play on the most difficult.

Have you played God Of War on Godmode ?

I like to start on a hard difficulty. I find normal on most games in the past 10 years to be too easy. My eyes light up when I see such difficulties as "Nightmare", "Impossible" and "Crushing".

I also prefer that a game allows you to adjust the difficulty mid game. It sucks when you playing a game on the hardest difficulty and then get to a spot that is impossible on the hardest difficulty level (normally a boss battle), and you have to start the game from the beginning to take the difficulty down a notch. This happened to me on Far Cry 1 when I played it on Nightmare, or whatever the highest difficulty was, and I just could not beat the last boss, even after 100 attempts, yet the rest of the game was manageable.

When I was a n00b I played on easy but now I play on normal, If a game is too hard and I'm dieing a lot I will scale down since its not fun to die all the time, f I die now and then that is fine, adds to the game.... Damn dogs

tsk tsk tsk

The difficulty of most games is substantially lower than what they used to be a few years ago, so if you were gaming a lot in that era, you'd probably find Normal too easy. I start games on Hard and go from there.

No, no, no. Never start with a hard on. It shows that you are too eager. The first level, you use to get to know the game. If you play your game right, you get the hard on by the second level. If not, the game is just not that into you :D

I find if a game is to challenging I get bored very quick. I like to keep things going rather than sit on quests. Sometimes I will just smash through a game on easy and finish it rather than play it for weeks on end on hard.

I usually play on Normal or Medium to enjoy the intended experience. If I really liked the game I will play on Hard.

I played F.E.A.R on hard.

I don't play any games on easy. Easy should only be played for beginners or its too boring in my opinion.

I am going to play Modern Warfare 2 again on Hard soon :)
