I only got into metal after I'd been playing guitar for a year or so, so I was playing rubbish up until then. My first metal song on guitar must've been Fear of the Dark by Iron Maiden, though. Or maybe Moonchild. It was ages ago. I can still play riffs and licks from pretty much any Maiden track between their debut and Fear of the Dark.
I've been playing for a bit over 17 years now, although I've been slacking for the last three since I quit my last band. I'm looking to start a new band with an old friend at the moment though, so I've been riffing again. It's kinda depressing how quickly you get out of shape, though. I'm not as fast and shreddy as I was.
Obviously I've owned loads of guitars over the years, of increasingly better quality.

I started playing on some horrid old 3/4 nylon string thing, and my first electric didn't even have a brand name printed anywhere on it. These days, I've got a black and white Squier Stratocaster (fitted with a DiMarzio Fast Track humbucker on the bridge, with a coil tap), a black Epiphone SG, and a black Ibanez RG. For some reason, I've been playing the Squier a lot recently, even though the Ibanez has a much faster neck. I should buy new strings for my Ibanez, ahem. ;P
I have a Carlsbro GLX Special (a legendary little amp), and a BOSS ME-50 effects unit.
My dream axe would be a bright yellow Jackson Kelly with a glitter finish (OH SO 80S AND OBNOXIOUS), but since Jackson's never bothered issuing the Kelly in a lefty model, I'll die without one. I suppose I'll settle for a white Jackson Dinky or a Jackson King V, though.
