Are people forgetting or just ignorant?

After having seen and read some articles and jokes and memes etc on the internet regarding Nazi's, I'm starting to wonder whether people are forgetting or simply don't care about what they say or post. Look at this story now at Tuks where some student "that suggested people should pose like Nazis to create a new social media craze." Seriously?

Have people forgotten about the utterly horrific and unimaginable horrors that the Nazi's performed? I know it was almost 70 years ago, but does the passing of time mean that it is socially acceptable to make light of what happened? To make jokes about it? Or to even try and revive it? I'm not saying that I'm entirely without blame myself, but I really think we are forgetting what happened and that is terrifying, because if we should have learned anything by now, is that if history is forgotten, history will repeat itself...

Don't forget that america is killing a hell of a lot of people aswell.

But yeah people are starting to forget what the nazis did.
But also the soviet union was worse than the nazis. they killed 6 million people in one year.

Both and also some people are just plain sicko.

My Great Grandfather was executed in the Sudetenland by the Wehrmacht not even the SS.

My great grandfather was fighting at alalamian.
And my other great grandfather was a royal airforce pilot.

some have suggest Stalin was far worse than Hitler

Back to topic, Nazi's in Germany is a real taboo thing there, no German you meet today will agree with what happened...

Often Den as you mentioned in the article, its a case of ignorance, my self having not witnessed but learnt of the horrors the Nazis does made it unacceptable for the Nazis to be given any form of credit other than the deaths of millions lives...Tuks, young kids not knowing better hey...clearley they never learnt or realised the full extent of the War and the Nazi's....

Don't get me wrong, what the USSR did and what the US is doing, is no less despicable. It's just that people seem to think making jokes about WWII era Germans (and no, not everyone) seems to be an acceptable form of humor or whatever. I also come nowhere close to have any kind of personal experience or relation to what happened, other than that I'm a human being and what happened appalls me.

Totally agree, And there are a lot of people that want that kind of thing to happen again aswell. Which really gets to me.

yes the Nazi's committed atrocious horrors but you can't deny the amazing organization and work ethic they had.

As to history repeating itself, its been happening for years, looks at Palestine...

You can say that about Germans in general.

So because someone had a drug problem, it's alright to joke about their deaths?

Lol I think its a difference when someone took that path and killed themselves to being marched to death camps :p

I fail to see why I should feel anything for woman who had the more privileges and help available then most addicts, hundreds if not thousands of people die every day and I must give a damn about a woman who wanted to die?

They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no" Yes, I've been black but when I come back you'll know, know, know I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine He's tried to make me go to rehab, I won't go, go, go

It's still someone dying.

It seems like a human trait to joke about tragedies, no matter how big or small. Amy Winehouse, 9/11, Princess Diana, Nazi's. And, frightening as it is history always seems to repeat itself, I remember the front page of the Times had two photo's of the toilets out in the open. One from the apartheid era and now a recent one - you'd almost say it's just a more recent photo of exactly the same place.

anyway back on topic, this probably originated on 4chan, where the majority of them are racist neckbeards, so connect the dots ;)

Yip and what is scary is that those some of those fucktards wouldn't even bat an eyelid if some tragedy befell them or their family. I think the world is becoming so desensitised to these and similar atrocities. So much so that I'm not sure how the world will react if and when something similar happens again.

OP makes me think of someone just saying:

I'm raping my bandwidth

You've raped in COD

<insert rape>

...Are people forgetting or just ignorant?

Right so how would you feel if for instance someone close to you (brother, sister, parent, friend) dies, and someone jokes about it, and makes fun of it?

I don't care much for Amy, but my point is the hypocrisy.
