Online retailer ratings

Following this thread Prophet suggested that we have one in which MyGamers can praise or lambaste online retailers. The idea is to get the word out on which online stores are most deserving of your hard earned cash, and which should be boycotted. [Is that too strong a word?]

With any luck, we might even end up with etailer representatives monitoring this thread.

Over to you.

Recent purchase:
Roccat Kone+ and Roccat Sense

ZapsOnline shipping didn't had my old pretoria residential code and it seems I failed to let them know about it. Shipping showed R149-R199, which kinda upset me as i were already spending about 1K so I went with Rebeltech. Zaps however as always went out of their way to correct mistake (shipping code now fixed) and my gears of war purchase is with them. I'll report back on that one. Rebeltech was fast and efficient, however their notice system was behind what was actually happening. On Monday I received the goods and all notices at once saying shipping, shipped and delivered.

Will I still shop with Zaps? of course !
Will I shop again with RebelTech? most definitely their pricing on GPU's seemed very good.

In the end:
RebelTech - Impressed by smooth sale, not so much about their notice system.
Zaps - Not so much initial err about shipping costs, it costed them a sale. However still greatly impressed by customer care and service.

I have bought items from Prophecy, Zapsonline and Sybaratic in the past.

All had given me great service. I don't shop online anymore as I now work at a PC retail store and can get stuff at cost.

Recent purchase : Grens Oorlog DVD Collection and PS3 - Red Dead Redemption from Take2.co.za
Had Grens Oorlog on my wish list , the moment they got stock they emailed me.
Package was shipped free of charge as it was over R350 , from Cape Town to JHB.
Received at my office in Sandton , no problems at all.
Ive actualy built my entire pc from take2.co.za , service has always been excellent.
And when ever i seemed to buy an expencive item from them like a motherboard or a few hard drives they throw in a little something extra like a baseball cap from Mushken or stickers for my pc.

I know that this was not from a online store but the purchase was all made on line.

I would just like to give a shout out to Joker, If there was some kind of member's trophy or award I would nominate him, He has been building a rig for me and I only have good things to say about the machine as well as Joker. He constantly kept my updated and delivered as promissed. He exceeded what I expected and wanted buy FAR, I really has been noting but a pleasure. This is the rig he built me.

- I7 2600k @ 4Ghz - Biostar TZ68A+ -
- 8 GiG Patriot G2 DDRIII 1600 - Sapphire 6970 2GiG BFBC2 Edition -
- Aerocool 600W Modular PSU - Aerocool Xpredator Evil Black -
- Acer 24" LED - Razor Arctosa - Asus ROG GX900

I rate him as a supplier 10 out of 10

So again thanks Joker

Recently bought a GTX560, Core i5 760 and 8Gb's DRR3 RAM from Rebeltech Awesome prices and awesome service, only wait I had was for the banks to transfer money >_< defiantly recommend them, their prices are crazy sometimes.

Got my GTX560 for R1700 (other on line stores all charging ~R2000)

Personally, I have had rather crappy service from Zaps in the past. Ranging from order confirmation times to mediocre after sale support, I know Prophet and CrzWaco had problems when ordering through them.

On the other hand, I have ordered from Prophecy several times before and have been impressed with seamless service every time. Landmark and RebelTech being really decent suppliers too.

I would rate them as follows:

Prophecy: 9/10 - Friendly staff, always dealt with my order quickly, if there has been a slight hiccup, it was rectified quickly.
landmark: 8/10 -
Sharpshoot response, orders processed smoothly
RebelTech: 9/10 -
Decent all round
Zaps: 5/10
- Bad experience twice. Although staff are rather friendly

I've been shopping online since the very beginning of the Internet (Yes I know) and have bought from almost everyone before
Summary:
Kalahari
Notice of No Stock is only given AFTER payment (Had a few incidents with them where Items I ordered were out of stock and struggled to get a refund on the items)

Take2 / Takealot
Up to date and very good notification System
(One or two International Delays with Items ordered from USA)

Zaps
Helpful staff, Good Telephonic Support
(I've found then the easiest to deal with in regards to solving issues etc, although Prophet had a shipping issue I suspect it could have been solved with a Phonecall to Guy or Moody)

Prophecy
Delayed Notification System
(Overall not a bad retailer, cost effective )

Computersonly.co.za
Fast, Decent Pricing
(Issues are resolved quickly but Notifications are Delayed)

Have2Have
Good Notification system - Pricing is Inflated though
(Only when you really really can't get it locally)

Nivo
Inflated Pricing (Margins are Insane for almost everything)

ByteServe
Good Support - Offer to Beat any pricing

Sybaritic
Good Pricing, Friendly Support Staff
(Telephonic Support is excellent and includes Troubleshooting Service)

Rebeltech
Good Pricing, solid dispatch and Support Systems

The Rest of the Onine Retailers have either failed to impress or have been once off Purchases, places like Ikonic IT, Landmark, PC Int etc
While some of them were decent I've never been a return customer as the primary shops I use normally either have better pricing or manage to keep my business through decent service

Only ever bought from TakeAlot (formerly Take2), and I've never been anything but happy. Items always arrive when they're expected, or earlier in the case of imports. Never had issues with delivery. Staff are almost always helpful. Only thing I can complain about is that the people handling the queries sent from [email protected] don't always seem to read/understand your emails, and sometimes respond with vague answers that doesn't really answer your question at all.

I'll give them a 9/10.

Takealot/Take2 is just pure win. I bough a HSF from them and it was bashed to bits in transit, emailed and within 2 weeks I had a new one. Only real gripe is the "return to supplier for assessment" cant blame them really... It's the suppliers that take forever to have a look at something, if they ever do!

I agree 9/10 for Takealot/Take2

Like to say thank you to zaps for another good sale: Gears of War 3.... with discount !!!!

After I decided to stuff the epic edition, leave BT and go with whomever is the cheapest. Looking though my account at zaps I saw I still have a voucher, but it was literally the last day to claim it

Couldn't claim it , but moody was to the rescue :)

So I made the order weeee back and let it simmer until it's about 2 weeks before the 20th. Now I had to make payment, but that 3D master secure just didn't want to work . So I had to settle for EFT payment, my least favourite of the lot, but not so bad it's ok.

Following up with Bony on Tuesday payment was confirmed and it was set for delivery today and which it did without issues.

Will I shop again with Zaps?
Yes sure, they've been more than accommodating as always and process was smooth except for the 3D Master secure bit.

Rating: 80/100 (could have been 95/100 if not for 3D Master secure and EFT)

I love buying my blu-rays from www.amazon.co.uk Pricing is 95% of the time cheaper than local and WAY cheaper. And if you order over 25 pounds, FREE SHIPPING! Granted shipping takes long, but that's not their fault. Highly recommended.

Take2 is also very good and prompt when items in stock. Also free shipping over R350. Also highly recommended.

Titan-Ice I've had two major issues. If you order online, you qualify for the price advertised online, but you HAVE to eft or cash by card instore. If you pay by card, then you get nailed with a significantly higher price. Apparently it states on their website somewhere, but still, I find it a stupid policy that they penalise you for wanting to pay by card. And then their was my whole SSD issue with it being faulty etc. One positive is that they do have a fairly comprehensive stock listing. Not recommended.

I don't think anybody mentioned this store before, so I will. I ordered about 3/4 of my pc from rampage-gaming.co.za, and they are now the only online store I ever will order from. Site looks great, easy to find the products you're looking for, only R50 delivery charge, they delivered my stuff under 2 days each time I placed an order, the pricing is really good, and they have a wide variety of products. I give them a 9/10. Only reason I don't give them a 10, is because the lack of pictures of some products makes it very tedious to buy a chassis or whatever. Altogether a great online retailer

Take2 are really excellent. I've bought from them plenty of times - always satisfied. Even bought a few items on their international catalogue from Amazon, and received great service and care, and the delivery was swift (5 working days while I expected 15-20).

Kalahari has its moments. But I don't really see the point in buying from them anymore since Take2/TakeAlot has a far bigger range of items and outprice Kalahari 9/10 times.

Ordered last week from Zaps, and what should have taken 2 days to deliver took a 7. I had to call twice to track my product, since they had apparently first delivered to wrong address and then forgot about it the next day. I understand that the courier is to blame, but then they need to get more reliable couriers. Anyways, for future reference, fastwaycouriers was the option I selected, so if you do order from Zaps you should probably choose another courier.
