I'm looking for good PC games and these are my specs:
Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS
Intel Core i3
Asus H61H2-M3 motherboard.

hmmm, just the GFX card is the problem as far as i can tell,What kind of games do you play?

On an 8600GT 512mb with 2gb ram on a core2duo 2.8ghz, i got skyrim running with the lower texture mod that i downloaded so perhaps the 8400can run it. I havent played many games on that machine as of late but it runs anything thats around 2 years or older with atleast low graphics. I also play league of legends on that machine if friends come over.

not much after 2007.
The 8400 is a serious hamper on the i3.

exactly this... would suggest saving up to buy a new GFX card, anything thats around R600 -R1000 will be day and night better than the 8400 and would definitely be a better investment for you.

I don't play games. I'm about to start and I want the best games. I saw DMC: 3 and Hitman at Incredible Connection last night, but it feels as if I won't be using my pc to it's full potential

Hitman Blood Money will struggle so it will be low settings. Try get the demo first and see how it works out.
Speak to Joker if you are looking for a new card, I am sure he will be able to sort you out with something nice.

If you are about to start playing games on your pc then yes, as simon says.. speak to the joker and he can hook you up with a new GFX card. It would be better to replace the 8400 with something that is going to run the latest games with no lag /minimal lag because you will get more frustrated with the lag trying to play the latest games and your experience wont be as enjoyable.

Otherwise if you really cant do a GFX card upgrade then look into games that are from 2007 - 2008, grab the demo's for the games and see how they run before you buy them:)

You'll be able to play most games, BUT on the lowest graphic setting and probably at 800x600 rez.

The only real problem you have is your GPU, the rest should still be fine and if someone tells you you need to buy a 8 core cpu, lies, most games can't even use those 8 cores. But if you have the cash, why not.

CPU = fine.
RAM = fine.
GPU = try to upgrade to mid range current generation card or low end graphic setting for most games.

Not much man.

Like the others have said. That 8400 is a POS in comparison for what you need in today's requirements.

I'm thinking about a Nvidia 8800 GTS. It can run Dragon Age Origins. How much does it cost and is it worth it?

Hmmm, give us a budget and we can make recommendations. The 8000 series is a little dated.

Even cheap cards nowadays compete with them.

Yea the 8000 series is quite old now. Let us know your budget as said above and there are many here that can give you top notch advice:) As far as i can tell the best person to speak to is the Joker (although quite a few of us can give you some decent advice). He has built up many gaming machines and he can even organise a decent priced card for you.

My personal opinion is to go for the Geforce 550ti which is around R1500 at the moment and is a decent entry level to mid level card that will run most games on medium to high graphics. I was considering this card myself due to budget restraints. you can also get an ATI card which you can get similar performance to the 550ti for slightly cheaper. Im not an ATI fan so can't really compare them.

You want to know something interesting about the 550ti, the windows rating is 7.2, my 5770 is 7.4. The performance between them is not that much. I really don't think a 550ti is worth R1500. My brother bought his for R1200 which is good, but for R1500 you are just shy of the bracket above being the 560 (not Ti) and the 6850. Much better cards.

yea i must be honest when i looked at the price I also wasn't that happy with it for R1500, i would also pay only around R1200. I know the suppliers have got the 550ti for a little cheaper than R1500 but that's why i have delayed on it. i'm quite surprised to see the 460 at R1310.. all suppliers i have checked have them closer to R1600 - R1700. That would definitely be a better option at R1310.
