Guild Wars 2

This is a big concern and the question also remains: will the french guilds stay on jade sea for release? Anyone able to ask them? ;-P

Who knows, but I doubt most people will stick with the servers they played on during the betas. There will likely be some consensus as to who plays where closer to release.

It's hard to say really - at this point, as far as I can see, this stress test will have us playing with our previously created characters. And it does seem as though the majority of the French Community has landed up on Jade Sea. It's not like I want to have SA isolated from the rest of the GW2 community, but being inundated in French is going to reduce our overall enjoyment of the game, as I see it.

So at the very least I'd like to have us on a server dominated by English speaking guilds.

I really don't want to be on a non-english server. Im hoping that GW2 brings out diff language servers for release but if it stays I think we should all change. Also with all my other chat concerns mostly blown out the window I think one of the only things we should look for (other that location of server/latency) is perhaps a server that is PVP dominant to get a full scope of WvW. We will be able to do all PvE in our own small groups so I think a decent PVP server would be nice :)

Well, to be honest I hope ArenaNet will be somewhat proactive here and "suggest" certain servers for certain regions/languages, otherwise we're going to have to keep a very sharp eye on that list you posted earlier, while I'll be watching Reddit for any changes there (I'm guessing you've been keeping an eye on Reddit as well, bushbaby :p ).

In any case, ANet has confirmed, there will be no character wipe for this stress test - we'll carry on playing where we left off, and with 29 odd French guilds on Jade Sea it's probably safe to say that's a French primary.

Anet is also working on expanding server capacity for the next BWE - that's why the stress test this Monday. There's something to be said for a game that overloads 48 servers in its first beta - so the worlds as we have them right now will likely increase.

Here's the sauce off the ANet blog - drool away

The other week we hosted our first Beta Weekend Event, when hundreds of thousands of players who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 got their first chance to play the game. This was a huge milestone for ArenaNet; with no NDAs and no press embargoes, the beta version of Guild Wars 2 would have to stand on its own before the full force of the Internet.

I think it’s safe to say that the response was overwhelming in more ways than one. Firstly, the number of people who pre-purchased the game far exceeded our expectations, and we had to temporarily disable pre-purchases. In the end that wasn’t enough, and even with 48 worlds we didn’t have enough server capacity to meet the huge demand.

Fortunately, the vast majority of players were able to get into the game and experience Guild Wars 2 in all its glory. Seeing Tyria come alive, with players interacting with dynamic events or engaging in epic World vs. World battles, was an amazing experience. We’ve highlighted some of the great coverage coming out of the Beta Weekend in another blog post, but suffice it say that we were blown away by the reaction from the community. The positive feedback just strengthens our resolve to deliver the best game possible.

This was definitely a real beta, designed to find problems, gather player input, and learn what work still needs to be done before we ship the game. We’ve listened to your feedback and we’re making some important improvements to the game for the next Beta Weekend Event.

At the same time, we’re also working on server capacity to make sure that we’re prepared for the even greater flood of players who will participate in the next Beta. To that end, we’ve announced a Stress Test on Monday May 14th to test some changes we’ve implemented. This 7-hour test event, which runs from 11 AM to 6 PM PDT (-7 GMT) is open to all players who have pre-purchased Guild Wars 2. The good news is that we’re not wiping characters for this test; we’re using the same build that we used in the first Beta Weekend Event, so you’ll be able to pick up right where you left off. For more information about the Stress Test, log in to the Beta Forums. Please join us on May 14 if you can.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support—every time you participate in our test events you help make the game better. We’ll see you in-game!

F~!! and I just deleted my .dat file thinking that I would have to re-
download it.

Why would you have done that in the first place as opposed to just letting the patcher run and determine for itself?

And even then, before the beta weekend all people with the old .dat file had to do was copy it back over and let the patcher just patch what it needed to.

The Guild Wars 2 Client
Follow the instructions below to download the client. Once you’ve obtained the client, we recommend that you allow it to update overnight, as there will still be a large number of files that will need to be downloaded before you can play the game. Make sure that you have at least 15 GB of space available on your PC’s hard drive.

I had a 40MB update.

Seeing that i was on a capped ADSL account, i wasn't going to make an effort to get guild wars 2. But after a few weeks of thinking things over i just had to do something and finally i cracked!

So what it all came down to in the end was me getting uncapped and pre-purchasing GW2! Now, i wait...

What are the minimum system requirements for Guild Wars 2?
Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to have it run on a wide range of Windows gaming PCs.

Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better • Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon 64 X2, or better • 2 GB RAM • NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better) • 25 GB available HDD space • Broadband Internet connection • Keyboard and mouse

Note: Due to potential changes, system requirements may change over time and you may be required to upgrade your current system (or obtain a new system) to continue to play the game.

What you guys say realistically is the requirements for gw2 to be able to play it without lag with settings in the middle, aka medium-ish.

If I had to guess. With the amount of tweaking you can do, if you don't mind blurry textures and really blocky edges. This would be my guess:

Any duel core CPU above 2Ghz should be able to run it
2 to 4gb RAM would be sufficient
Anything FROM and AFTER the 9000 Geforce series would be able to handle it on low to medium at least.
(I know of players who tried it on a ATi 4850 1GB and it worked perfectly)
Well Win XP I dunno about, but if they support it then they support it, though I can say that you would be stupid to try it.
And then Broadband connection I can give you this info:
Works on a 384 line without problems, only lags if the servers lag or if they are overloaded.
Crappy 1mb line with severe packetloss(10% all the time) works fine as well, only lags when servers lag or if they are overloaded.
Over 4mb= You don't have to worry.
