S.t.a.l.k.e.r. 2

According to Wiki, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has been cancelled to be replaced instead by an MMOFPS, in the memory of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise? This for real? No... S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?

It's a sad reality yes. Have a look at the previous page for all the info.

The not-so-traditional MMO is called Survarium:

I'm extremely disappointed by this. I can't imagine it working out. Specially with trying to get the same atmosphere as they did from S.T.A.L.K.E.R with a couple of hundred people on a map. Not the same, it's the lack of people that made it for me.

Mean while we can keep looking forward for Lost Alpha. :D Happy to report that Lost Alpha is still on track, and moving smoothly. Dez also sends greetings to us Africans :D

I couldn't agree more. The feeling of not knowing what's going to happen in the radioactive wasteland of Chernobyl, made me love the game that much more. And the music. Oh my word! Made such an incredible atmosphere.

When i first heard that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was in the pipeline, I was ecstatic! Couldn't wait for it to come... Now this...
They're going to have to pull of some amazing shit to get an MMOFPS to match what the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series has accomplished.

I have faith in them. Most of the guys making Survarium are the same people who've been developing the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe for more than ten years. Only now they'll be able to realize their vision on a much larger scale.

They have been getting many questions on what Axon mentioned regarding the game world. To allow people to still experience the feelings of solitude which S.T.A.L.K.E.R. undoubtedly perfected, Survarium will feature very large maps, on which only about 4-6 people will be allowed to play per session. This will allow for the possibility to not run into another human player each and every time you play, which would make the encounters you do have with real players, very special in an unpredictable way. Is he/she hostile or friendly? Can I trade with him/her? Do the clothes they wear really reflect the faction they belong to? What kind of shapoo do they use?

Plus you'll be able to choose your character's gender.

But there's a problem with all this still: Humans. Most online games, when you see another human player you attack. Kill them, they might have nice loot. Specially if we get some youngsters joining in on the action. Bunch of bandits I say.

I'd like it if you can't choose a faction, but a faction chooses you. In other words, depending on how you play in the game. So if you run around killing everyone you become a bandit. Never shoot at anyone and you become a ecologist or something. Your actions should define who you are in the game.

Point is there has to be some way of keeping stupid people from playing stupid. Force them to think for themselves. A game with consequences towards your player.

Just think if we could play as the mutants also... :D

Interesting idea. Maybe they'll implement some sort of *structure like that...

*Apologies for my lack of a better word.

'Game mechanic'. You're welcome.

Couldn't agree more. Fortunately, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. players are generally more sophisticated than, say, most Call of Duty players, and Survarium will undoubtedly be more appealing to the former crowd. Therefore (hopefully) we might find that 5 out of six players per session will play the game in a like-minded fashion, which would include not being out for human blood (all the time). There should be very serious risks and eventual consequences for those who attempt to turn the game into a PvP experience. The environment and that which is spawned from it should be one's enemy. However, there should also be a very definite sense of unpredictability when you do meet another human player. It's going to be a very difficult balancing act for Vostok to perfect.

Yep. Vostok should sell the the rights to another comp--wait! I take that back... That just won't work. Ah! Maybe give it to 4A Games...?

4A games aren't interested in it. Apparently the guy wants too much for it.

I got into contact with one of the old employees of GSC and well... He was very sad and it sounds like it's all final, they didn't even get a warning or anything. The project was put on hold and the next moment that CEO decided he's tired of making games.

That's quite a shame. The developer (CEO) should've grown some cahonees and finish what he started... Ai!:(

I just pray this MMOFPS will NOT be a mistake.

I enquired, some time back, about purchasing a licence for SOC engine, thinking it wouldnt be too pricy considering its age and the fact that it will never be used again, but alas i was presented with a ludicrous amount and, well, that was that.
I really dont know what got into Sergey and why now i hear he is looking for a new team to tackle the task of creating stalker 2.
Yep i can see the logic : "movie deal gone sour, console deal not happening, game not going quite as expected......hmmm....I know, I`ll fire everyone and get a new team to start all over again...yeah that`ll work."

I have real doubts about this. But maybe I'm just being pessimistic.

Maybe, because we're all doubting them they're pushing to create something really wonderful. I'm sure they will make something good. But good is not what I want, I want STALKER.

Yes! S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Savior of Ukraine or some shit like that... :p

Was SOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to the next S.T.A.L.K.E.R. installment. Admittedly, I never played Call of Pripyat. But that's not the point.

Was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 gonna be based directly after the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, depending on your ending? Or something completely different?

It was going to continue where either Shoc or COP left off. You should really try COP, it's not bad. And some of the up coming mods out there add a lot to the game.

The only thing that's driving me right now though is Lost Alpha.
