PC gamepad controller options

X-box 360 controller is the logical choice. Alot of new Games are designed to make use of it. The wireless version is comparitively cost effective.

xbox 360 controller is the way to go. I've had mine for more than a year and it just works. There's no need to setup anything (except for installing the drivers)

No thank you. My biggest reason why I'm yet to play my non-Move enabled PS3 games are due to the lack of Mouse and Keyboard. The controller is a nightmare for me. No freakin way I'm connecting anything like that to my PC. The M+K is one of the main reasons I game on PC.

By the way though... what the heck is this? How are you suppose to hold it?

PS3 controller on pc= FAIL. DON'T DO IT.

Care to explain why?

I keep my PS3 controllers on my PS3 and use a wired Xbox controller for PC. There is no better option.

Some games just play better with a controller. A PC is a multifunctional device and limiting it to just a mouse and keyboard is missing the utility of the platform.

Why? I use mine on PC without fail.

Random QTE event pops up! Press Y + B.
You dead...

The GUI's of ported games is almost always designed just with the Xbox360 controller in mind. That and the black variant of the xbox controller had all it's flaws fixed. It's just a very good hassle free controller.

I personally use The Cyborg V.5 which is basically a tweaked Xbox 360 controller that allows you to use the Xbox 360 left analog configuration, or the PS3 left analog configuration... And believe me, I use that analog switch functionality, and its effective.

You don't hold it, it's suppose to substitute your keyboard. So it has all the WASD keys plus spacebar and a few function keys all built in such a way as to make them easier to reach.

So you would use that plus a mouse.

For one games use either numbers or the xbox buttons, not a PS3 layout. 2nd is that only 5 bluetooth dongles work. Its not worth it, too much effort and the the whole process just frustrated me.

Moved on to an xbox 360 wireless and I'm smiling all the way through my games. Plug and play just works better

To add to this. IT is a veryy cool setup with adjsutable. palm rest. I can only play games without lean on it though as you run out of buttons. So i have stuck to my keyboard . I have the Belkin N52 . You be surpised to see the resemblence :D

Care to name a few examples? (Besides Mortal Kombat and Tekken)

Ok thanks, I suppose that makes more sense than trying to hold it :)

Some find most fighters better with a controller, such as SSF IV (I'm better with a keyboard on this one though). Some 3rd person games (not necessarily the shooters) feel better with a controller, such as Transformers: War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron, the Prince of Persia games, Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions, the Batman Arkham games, and a few others.

Here's a few from my Steam list:

Darksiders
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 1&2
Dirt 3
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Tomb Raider: Legend
Shift 2 Unleashed
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
LIMBO
Bastion
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Super Meat Boy (<--THIS!)
Psychonauts

and the list goes on...

Devil May Cry
Crysis2 (Just because the rumble is so well done in that game)
Dark souls
Skyrim (With SkyUI, interface designed for mouse works 10 times better for the controller too...) - Sneaky Assassin plays better.
Sonic Generations
Assassins Creed
Prototype

Again the rumble and the ability to control how fast your character moves is why I prefer to use the controller in singleplayer games. Oh and the comfort...

The only time I use mouse/keyboard these days is when I play games like SC2 and HoN online.

Good list. Reminds me I should test out Steam's big picture this weekend. Would be interesting playing Bastion and Super Meat Boy on a 40 inch TV for a change.

That's originally what I wanted, but it wasn't available in SA at the time.
