Get a Solid State Drive

still not sold on it, fast yes but the reliability still leaves alot to be desired. once they got the kinks worked out i'll be lining up with my cash

Just got one on Friday and definitely worth the upgrade IMHO.

Currently have some of my games on it and the page file. Went with Corsair force GT and will be getting another one for my OS and Program Files...

I couldn't go to rage this year so I gave my friend the money to buy me a seagate 128 gb. got it yesterday. It really is worth it loading times are so much faster! I can finally play tf2 without having to wait so long for the maps to load

Thinking about going with a Adata 120 GB S510 series Sata III 2.5" SSD@R1050

Anybody have it would I be wasting my money

From rebeltech, corsair force gt 120gb at R1396 (includes delivery). Pointless to get a 60gb or 90gb imho, rather start at 120gb...

Thanks Pr⊕phet

Seems that consensus in this thread is that it is a must have.

Would be keen to get one for my work laptop. The thing is constantly dragging it's heels.

But for home that would be magic for gaming.

Make sure the drive you get has a decent controller and memory chips, don't go asynchronous get proper synchronous. This is why I went with corsair force gt.

Yea well will see if I can sell my old Asus p8h61 all in one m/b and my 3.ghz i3 and see what I can get because I'm upgrading to amd

The trick is to get something that is just more than adequate. n00b question, I assume you can install secondary drives as you would normal hdd's?

I'm in the market for a new120GB SSD. There are so many makes these days at all kinds of different prices. Can anyone recommend an SSD at a good price and post a link?

Just plug in the SSD, initialize, format and use :)

Would need to know your budget, however I can say that you might pay a little more for synchronous instead of asynchronous. You should also be aware that if you don't have Sata3 it's going to be bottlenecked.

I would suggest decent synchronous and controller, so far I know of corsair GT and the OCZ vertex 4. Adata, the cheap one, is async would not be so fast as the two I've mentioned.

The corsair GT I found cheapest with delivery at rebeltec, Mine was 1396. The vertex 4 would be cheaper around 1200 if I remember correctly. Just double check what you want to buy before you do it :)

Also you might want to read on how to let your SSD last longer, I seem to have lost that link :(

If I remember correctly now
pre-fetching off
automatic defrag off
set mode rather to ahci instead of raid or ide. BUT you need to set registery before doing this, you will get BSOD if you do this after a windows installation.

...might be more or less.

Thanks Pr⊕phet. I'm currently running a 60GB SSD which I will use just for games and a new 120GB for Windows and other programs.

Unfortunately I don't have SATA 3 but I will eventually. :-) I'm thinking of waiting a few weeks to see if prices drop or a special comes along.

*edit*

Tried to give you rep but the system says I have to give to some other people first unfortunately. Will try again in the future.

Hi i usually buy my hardware from a site named spectratec (i think they are new) they are good with there prices and sometimes if you ask for a price they try to give you a discount (my monitor normal price = R3990 discount = R3780 the guy told me they can't always give discounts buy they try) with some SSD's they are cheaper then rebeltech and shipping is cheap - but i'm looking for a SSD myself any ideas on a good 180Gb?

Regards

Would love to get one but storage is my main priority at the moment. Plus, I practically never boot my PC, stays on all the time. However, a SSD would help for my multi-tasking.
