Eating out

Local caffeine junky
So... I wanted to take my wife out to a nice restaurant the other day. We would have gone to our favorite place, Cafe Del Sol in Olivedale (http://cafedelsol.co.za), but sadly it was closed for the holidays.

So I looked around a bit and came across the Silver Orange Bistro out by Hartebeespoort dam. http://www.silverorangebistro.co.za. It's a very lekker place on their family's citrus farm. We went for breakfast, and I kind of thought that breakfast is more or less the same no matter where you go, but this was amazing. I'll post some photo's if I remember, because the presentation was also very impressive, but it was the most delicious breakfast I've ever had.

I had a farmhouse breakfast, which had a drizzle of what seemed like mixture of olive oil and maybe basil pesto, which really brought out a lot of flavour, and a small fillet steak, which was a perfect medium rare, and super tender, eggs, bacon, potato wedges, mushrooms and toast. My wife had a stack of french toast, bacon and banana, which came with cream on the side and a fancy sugar decoration thing.

The waiter told us that no-one really comes for breakfast though because the lunch is so much better, so I'm dying to go out there for lunch one day. I see they even do wine tastings. The prices were pretty reasonable as well, which was a nice surprise.

Anyways, thought I'd make a thread and see if anyone else knows of lekker places to eat out.

EDIT: As promised, here's some pics

I've been to Silver Orange for lunch and it's fantastic. The wine selection is also great.

Never heard of Cafe Del Sol in Olivedale; I'm definitely gonna try out.

It's a great place that. Well worth trying out. I usually go for something like Springbok Carpaccio for starters, then steak with Gorgonzola cream sauce and sundried tomato risotto, and maybe some polenta chips, and then even though I'm not much of a dessert person, their pavlova is awesome.

This thread is making me really hungry.

That does sound good; how's their vegetarian selection?

When hitting Pretoria, try the following places:

The fancy ones:
- Pachas
- Krean
- Cynthia's Indigo Moon

The not-so-fancy-ones that are really awesome and deserves a mention:
- Crawdaddy's
- Coco Bistro
- Boston Deli (they have awesome burgers, and deep-fried nougat)

these are pretty darn good except for the service at gilroy's. the waiters there have an attitude and always try and sneak in an extra item on your bill.

Maybe they expect everyone there to be drunk. TBH, I go there more for the beer than for the food

You forgot Capeesh for the first list and Toni's pizza for the second.

a place with the BEST meat I ever had was Turn-n-Tender in Bryanston (NicolWay Shopping Centre).
they have a presentation before you order your meat, showing you what cuts they use and how the different spices they offer when preparing the meat.

I ordered the Peri Peri Chicken Livers for Starters and then the 500g TBone with Mashed potatoes for main course.....

Food is priced average, but the drinks is a little expensive (hardehout at least).

I don't know about any renovations, but I've only ever been to the one in the moot. I did see some cars there during Dec.

I went there like two weeks ago and the entire place was emptied out and people were grinding and doing tiling in there. I hope they re-open soon. Roast Leg of Lamb pizza. Hmmmm.

This is fast becoming my favourite thread (don't tell the TK guys "whistling:).
