Any gotchas I should know about with Origin

Call me paranoid, but I don't exactly trust EA or anything to do with them, but I enjoyed the c&c games and see the entire collection is going for 50% off, so I may finally download Origin. Anyway I was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of before going ahead- like you can only download games once AKA Ubisoft or always on DRM etc. Are there any gotchas that are going to have me pulling my hair out?

Then I'm also paranoid... Don't like them even one bit...I'm even considering not buying SimCity...
Anyways, with regards to your question...I have no idea:rolleyes:

Origin is worse than Steam but better than UPlay :p

There's nothing inherently "wrong" with Origin apart from the fact that it's just not as refined as Steam is.

It's just another distribution platform, really.

origin has one better than steam. if you buy the disc copy you can launch the game without patching it first

^ this irks me so much with steam tbh...

Origin is okay, but like the others already stated, it's not nearly as refined as steam. At least it's not uPlay.

Steam is way better IMO but these forced programs you have to use these days is BS. They really do not make your gaming aexperience better. Origin is better than it was at launch but be prepared in some instances to d/l your patch or your game twice before it works properly.....

You can if you just switch to offline mode in steam.

I love steam, but refined? Its a terrible piece of software, have so many issues with it, its just way better than the other offerings.

Not with any of the newer games. Because the new install process drops the files in the "downloads" directory of steam, then it forces you to connect to the internet in order to do the update and finish installing the game. Tried it with DmC the other day, just to dodge the 1.5gb patch and I couldn't.

I don't have any other complaints about steam. Haven't had any real trouble and the only time I've had one or two issues was when I was actually using the BETA client in order to have access to the BigPictureMode.

I just have badluck with origin must be.

Once it updated and it told me all my games where uninstalled and I had to redownload them Yet when I go into the folders where the games are installed all the files are still there but origin refuses to "see" them, So had to do many jumps to finally get my files back so origin could see them and I don't have to re download them.

Also sometimes I get origin is not responding as I want to join James in DS3, or the ingame menu will be unresponsive for a few times where I have to hit shift f1 a few times for it to go back into game.

Does anyone know if they fixed the t&c that you must download your game in the first year or else you won't be able to download it after that year?

I'm not entirely sure that Steam is really the guilty party. The same thing happens when you buy games in stores. You have to download a day-zero patch online before you can play it.

No, but with DmC I had already finished the game a week before the patch came out. And installing it before then there was no patching involved.

Disagree. Compared to Tages, SecuRom, etc, Origin is by far a far better DRM with far fewer problems.

Unlike UPlay, which was (and still is) a glorious pain in the arse with far too many issues that need ironing out.

I have uplay, so if this is one up, then I should survive. Man I just hate having all these clients installed.
