League of Legends fan-made fighting game emerges

The popularity of League of Legends has extended so far that a group of dedicated fans has taken the uber-popular MOBA universe into the fighting realm.

The game is a traditional 2D fighter that features many of the heroes form the PC game.

“League of Fighters is a League of Legends fan project using the FM2K engine to bring LoL characters into a 2D fighting game. The game's mechanics are very similar to the LoL which makes for a really interesting fighting game. Each special attack has its own cooldown just like in the game! You can choose your own summoner spell when you select a character (we only show 3 in the trailer but we're planning many more). We actually use [Super Smash Bros.] controls for the inputs for special attacks so it still feels good on anything from a keyboard to a stick.”

There is no release date for the fan-made game, but LoL fans can keep an eye on the project to see how it develops.

In short a fan made game is being made from a fan made game :p (usually fan made games are made from from a blizzard, EA etc game).

If you never played Nintendo games or Pokemon games you wont get it

DOTA was essentially a mod (read: fan-made), for Warcraft 3. League of Legends is actually developed by a developer: Riot Games.

Dota 2 was made from Valve not talking about the first one although LoL and HON have taken ideas from both Dotas.

If you knew Nintendo games fan made stuff is still made from companies.

I'm sorry to say, but I have no idea what you're trying to express...

After lengthy discussion with my Rosetta Stone, I think I understand what you're trying to say. But it's still wrong :p

DotA (the original) was a fan-created mod for Warcraft 3. DotA 2, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth are all publisher-backed, studio-developed games that are inherently not fan-made, fan-based or in any way fan-anything.

DotA (the original) was essentially the progenitor of the "multiplayer online battle arena" genre. It can therefore be argued that League of Legends, DotA 2 and Heroes of Newerth are inherently part of the same genre, but you cannot accuse them of being "fan-made" or "fan games."

They are separately copyrighted games, publisher-backed and studio-developed. They aren't fan-made, fan-based or "fan games" (by which I'm not sure what you mean).

Your argument doesn't hold ground. It's the same as arguing that Dragon Age is a fan-made game of Baldur's Gate :wtf:

That's called "inspired by", not fan game.

This.

It's also important to remember that they are commercialised. The original DotA was not sold, as this would've (quite blatantly) violated many of Blizzard's copyrights.

Although, I think this is going a bit too far into legal territory, but that's essentially the easiest way to differentiate fan-based from commercialised (studio-produced and published).

Edit: Lycanthrope is much better at debating than I am, so what he said.:D

Same could be said about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games which are fan games yet are sold and they asked the actual company Gamefreak for permissions to do it.

Can also be said they were inspired by the main Pokemon games.

Mayhaps, but you also need to remember that they contain identical content (creatures, universe, attacks, lore, etc).

It's like saying Digimon and Pokemon are the same. They are similar genres but they don't feature the same content.

haha... Thanks, that's very kind of you :o
