Ubisoft will pursue a sequel to Far Cry 3, Senior VP of Marketing and Sales Tony Key has announced plainly.

"It's a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one: more on that soon," Key told GameSpot. That recognition comes from combined retail and digital sales to the tune of 6 million as of May, making the game one of Ubisoft's top recent performers alongside Assassin's Creed 3 and Just Dance 4.

A standalone spinoff to Far Cry 3, titled Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, was released back in April. It stars sergeant Rex "Power" Colt, a cyber-commando up against the Omega Force cyborg army in an alternate 2007, ravaged by nuclear war and '80s action movie references. Our review says it "broadens the appeal of its source, thanks to a hilarious, accessible dollop of nostalgia, coated in the mechanics that made Far Cry 3 great."

This is pretty good news. FC3 was amazing. The only things I want them to add to FC4 would be more diversity in side missions, the game should be more challenging and you shouldn't be able to completely clear the island of pirates. They should repopulate the island over time. Just not as fast as in FC2.

Also pretty obvious news.

This is very good news. Far Cry 3 deserves a sequel.

Now very interested to see what's going to take place. And will it be taking place directly after the events of Far Cry 3?

I can't see it taking place after the events of FC3 because

***spoiler***

If you choose to join citra you die, and by choosing to join your friends you leave on a ship.

There really isn't much to work on. Unless they let you play as Vaas or someshit. I'm hoping it does have the same island feel as FC3. As we all know FC2's dessert setting was horrendous.

What I didn't like about Far Cry 2 was:

Bullet hit marker; had to sometimes empty a clip into someone to kill them.
Checkpoint enemy respawns were too damn frequent.

far cry's never got the same main character so making a new one after 3 will definately not be a problem.

What Vamp was implying was that FC4 should pick up from Jason's story. ( Or at least that's how I see it)

I have no doubt that we'll see a new character for reasons stated in my reply to Vamp in the first place :)

I think we'll probably see more island next time or maybe a huge mountain with surrounding flat terrain or something.
