Whose lines have already been upgraded by Telkom?

I just had to downgrade our office's ADSL line back to a 4MB line. We won't get 10MB anytime soon
Atleast the boss will be happy with the R100 saving.

I'm looking at my line now and will ten to one go back to a 2mb line as well.
It would seem that i have to wait until the end of the month before i can downgrade, might as well enjoy my 20GB Afrihost data. Thanks again MyG and Afrihost :)

Fibre makes more sense for businesses that lose big bucks for every minute that the core infrastructure goes down so they really don't care whether it costs 1k or 100k as long as it doesn't fall over. The low contention is overrated. Our ADSL is currently working fine with a contention ratio of 50:1, we don't really to jump from that to 1:1. Give us 1:10 or 1:20 and we'll still be happy about it, but it will reduce the cost tremendously. Shaping is really not important these days, most decent ISPs will say exactly which accounts are shaped and what they shape. Uptime / SLA: It might be handy to have that in a contract somewhere, but there will still be downtime when people damage the right cable somewhere. Only difference is how quickly it will be repaired.

Agreed on the first part of businesses that lose big bucks, but we are running several VPN links over WAN and it's just fine on ADSL - obviously dependant on the number of users. There are also many other options which cost far less than R1850/Mbps.

Fibre is the future, undoubtably. But they are trying to offer a too perfect solution which is way more than most people need atm. IMO they would be better off offering a ADSL-like fibre connection for a similar price which has the benefits of fibre (synchronised speeds etc etc etc).
 
I guess it depends on the type of work & the exact setup. Personally I don't see it working for anything but very small offices that mostly use email.

Fibre is generally laid out as a ring, so one break won't take it down...unless its between the breakout point and your office - which is hopefully a short distance.

You need to check router stats...the telkom check shows 4mbps for me too...but the actual connection is still at 2mbps.

You need to check router stats...the telkom check shows 4mbps for me too...but the actual connection is still at 2mbps.

Same here, shows speed at 4 (was on 2), but router only syncing at 1.9.
 
My line has been upgrades already lucky me :D that was kinda fast i expected ti to only happen some time next week :D

Now to see what the isp's are going to do

Checked now. My router is still syncing at 2Mbps...but what is strange is that the ADSL Checker is stating something different...

I would assume that because I am on Telkom Internet I would automatically be upgraded. Also currently I am experiencing some HUGE lag in my internet service, which makes me even more worried. Speedtest.net doesn't even go over 500Kbps...

I think my exchange has been 10Mbps for a long time though, although it's only been syncing at 6Mbps, and I have a 4Mbps uncapped account, so it doesn't really help.

WA does have a tool to let you change your line speed and reset your port etc though, and I saw that it said it was currently 6Mbps, and it recommended 8Mbps, so I changed it, and then it recommended 10Mbps. I guess they don't recommend too big a jump.

I'm seeing if this sync speed is stable for a while, then I'll crank it up to 10.

Hey Guys. Just to confirm. I had phoned Telkom and they told me the 2mb to 4mb upgrade has been done how ever ports need to be reset and will be completed by the 23rd of November! Tried to phone and get it done manually and they told me they have orders to leave the resetting of the ports till the 23rd!
