Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as the Man of Steel's ultimate foe Lex Luthor in Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder's Batman Vs. Superman, while Jeremy Irons has also joined the film as Batman's loyal butler Alfred.

Variety has the report on the surprise casting. The question of who would play Lex has been a topic of much discussion among fans ever since the Man of Steel sequel was announced at Comic-Con last July, as it has largely been assumed that Lex would appear in the film. Names like Bryan Cranston and Joaquin Phoenix had been floated regarding the part, but it looks like the master of Facebook himself, Eisenberg, will be running LexCorp when the film hits on 6 May 2016. (It should also be noted that Eisenberg is not bald, but is quite capable of shaving his head for the part. See how that works, Internet? You don’t automatically have to be bald to play Lex!)... Never would have considered him for the role. Definitely has the acting chops so I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in the role!

This is going to be interesting. I see lots of confused people on Twitter and Google+ that don't understand the choice and they reckon that he isn't going to be a good Luthor.

Remember how angry people were when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker?

People were angry? lol

He killed that part. I can't see anyone else living up to that standard.

Reading the first comment of that Article and now taking back what I said.

But still, just by the looks of Jesse Eissenberg, I can't picture him as Lex. Even with no hair. His posture, his voice. It doesn't make sense!

Perhaps that's a good thing. We've seen so many takes on Lex Luthor that were cast from the same die. Perhaps he puts a spin on this one.

Same here, but who knows.. maybe he does a good job. Can't even picture ben afflect to be the new batman.

Sure his looks will be changed through expensive makeup and his posture/voice will be changed through his life's career: acting :p.

Well, any Lex that's not corny would be a welcome change I guess. He doesn't look the part but I'm willing to give it a go. I want a menacing looking Lex though. Smallville Lex is probably still my favourite Lex.

Nah, I think he will do it well. But all remains to be seen.

So many remakes/reboots happening, so many different actors and changes.

i dont understand why they dont wanna use michael rosenbaum, the guy was the most perfect lex luthor in smallville. i dont think eisenberg has the quality to pull of such a villian

Eisenberg is a great actor so I think he could pull it off. I think the point of the casting is a new take on the character; so we can't expect the Lex of old. Either we get a new Lex that changes our perception of the character [Like Heath Ledger did for Joker]; or we get a bad representation and they go back to the status quo. Either way it isn't a bad outcome for any of us

As a massive comic book fan, and collector, I think they have done extremely well on the casting front until now. While I enjoyed him in other movies, the villain role just doesn't sit well with him.

I still think this will be tuned into a Justice League flick though :)

I reckon the same thing. Kevin Smith was speaking about this with Paul Dini on Fat Man on Batman the other night. They should basically use these movies to keep introducing characters, who will garner off-shoots themselves, then in-turn will create more and more characters. Sounds like a good plan to me. Like have Aquaman make a turn in a Wonder Woman stand-alone movie.
