Portal tshirt: Preorders

True but as has been proven in previous court cases, use of a trademark on a shirt is not enough to prove infringement, instead you have to see the whole picture of how this impacts on steam and portal and can they prove dilution of the brand as well. Generally consumers are allowed freedom of expression and in this age brands are seen as a form of expression and as such people are allowed to associate themselves with a brand provided their expression does not negatively impact on the original brand.

Therefore while stunt does have a point, it is also unlikely that these shirts would ever be deemed to be an infringement on portal and steams rights in their current form.

I understand and accept you view, it's also why I suggested he contact the Registered holder, Valve and query it. I guarantee they won't flog him for 10 t-shirts, but this is about being morally right.

What he does wrong is he could be making an income off this and he's also advertising this on a registered website. If something comes from this, MyG could get into trouble.

Well let's see what comes from the letter but I'm 90% certain that valve won't have a problem.

I really like this shirt! If Valve allows you to sell some, I may get one :) Could you make a version without the Aperture logo + name? Or perhaps so that it says "Ap" instead of "Ape" on the front :p I will be watching this thread for news :)

is this legal? Do you have the rights to use licensed trademarks?

I'd be interested if you had a license to sell these.

T-shirt piracy. Sad.

I couldn't really care.

When Inevitability came out with the idea to get N7 themed Mass Effect shirts, he needed a few guys to buy in to warrant getting any made at all - it wasn't exactly for profit due to the low quantities and high overheads.

Anyway, I still wear my N7 shirts to this day and they're awesome.

I'd like to place an order for 2 Portal shirts asseblief. :)

I 2nd this
I'll include my good review also, I'm still wearing the Hitman and Flash shirts he previously made. The flash shirt had a small printing issue but not really noticeable, he told me before delivery and he offered to not charge me so to me this isn't a money making scam.

IP / copyright discussions aside...
Thanks for the kind words guys. It's very satisfying to know that something that's kind of a "labour of love" is also enjoyed by others.
As for quality, I make these things for my own self primarily, and I'd only ever sell the same quality to others that I'd want for myself.

Well when you have all the details i would def order one and would also like to know if you can make it in grey or not?

Where do you get the t-shirts printed/made? I've always wondered where you can do that, maybe make a once-off tee for myself :)

You need to make 15 or so for it to start to get closer to the price of something you'd get from a OEM apparel store.

Then there's various manufacturing techniques. Like the vinyl prints I prefer are supremely durable, but you can't do colour gradients and anything more than two colours could quickly become impractical depending on the design. Or you can get it screen printed, or inkjet printed.

Choices affect the complexity of the manufacturing process which affects cost.

We have a little side-business that can help you out. It will be somewhere between R220 and R250 for a custom shirt if I recall.

Holy Shirts. (yes I know the website sucks)

Nah. My designs are all here on the forum somewhere. You can probably find them all still.
My first was the N7 one (Mass Effect).
Then I made a big-bang run in one go... Flash, Hitman, BioHazard and RadioActive.
And now this.
I have a folder full of "random thought" designs on my laptop. Most of them won't see the light of day cos I'd never find 5 people wanting to buy it and its just too expensive to make just one.

You should post them, maybe to a blog or something. Lots of t-shirts I see would make great wallpapers, perhaps you can turn them into things like that.

I've got some t-shirt ideas, just got to learn some design and steal the talent of some artist!
