Xbox One without Kinect coming to South Africa

This is very good news.

I am still sold on Xbone over PS4 - The only reason I would go PS4 is for Project Beast!

No games on Xbone that appeal to me just yet. So hopefully by the time there are some titles it'll be much cheaper. And there's no way it's going to retail for R4100 in SA.

Yip, R4100 is a distant dream... The PS4 is retailing at $399 as well now, and that is like 7K... Sure we will see a drop in the PS4 price soon though, just to be more competitive than X-Box...

That's good news. I'm still a long time from being able to get either console, so I'll make my final choice when the time comes. At the moment though, I would probably go for the PS4

That is excellent news! At just over 4k its much more reasonable than PS4. At least now I have a target to save towards.

As much as the new price is tempting to me, I am still waiting for after Christmas 2014 before I choose either one. Early adopters have great titles available and will get their money's worth on both consoles. But for me it is all about a sizable library of exclusives on console. Uncharted got me a PS3, Gears of War got me and XBOX 360. I am still waiting for such great exclusives to get me a new gen.

Saying all that, a new Kinect-less XBOX One is certainly a move in the right direction! My 360 Kinect gather dust and only comes out about once a year for Kinect Sports olympics when all my friends gather.

Main feature i like of the xbox is the kinect if thats gone its pointless lol
Yip I agree with you all they have done is removed there differentiating factor,They basically now are just a weaker Ps4.What they should have done is released the Kinect model at that price and swallowed the costs. They compromised the performance of there console with trying to pack kinect in now they be a flip flopping all over the place. This console should be called the Xbox 180.

Still opting for ps4. The only game I'm interested in on Xbone is Sunset Overdrive and as incredibly fun that looks it's just not enough to sell the system for me.

Not everyone understands economics and for-ex. Odds are a launch price just over R7K thanks to the rand

No no I understand the exchange rate and the fact that the PS4 is a similar price in the US. But considering that the XBOne is entering the market with an already established rival it is my wishful thinking that it may enter at a highly competitive price.

Like I said wishful thinking.. But some people like being "smart".

Honestly, if you want a cheap XBONE just import it from amazon. It will work out to about: R5,842.20 excl. VAT. This is with the Kinect (Non-Kinect bundles are unavailable to South Africa at the time I tried to place one in my cart). Local pricing will not be matching the EU/UK pricing it is guaranteed, import costs + supplier markup + retailer markup = Cost of Console.

Yeah, guess we will have to wait and see.. Just hoping its considerably cheaper than the PS4.

I'm with Termin8r on this one. The only reasonable way that they can intend to compete here is if they release at a stupidly low price; ironically by removing the Kinect they have made the console actively less attractive an option than the PS4. Without the Kinect even more of the XBONe's weaknesses are brought to light; so I don't know how they will market this product effectively.
