Games that went free-to-play

Age of Conan: Unchained and Team Fortress 2 are the only titles I've played within the list. They're both fun and quite enjoyable.

I played all of those except for DC Universe Online.

I'd say the problem with games going F2P is that the game becomes free as well to own. It isn't like GW2 where you need to buy the game first.

Because of this, games like Tera, SWTOR, ArcheAge etc become filled with gold spammers and other bots which ruin the experience.

I've been a subscriber of Final Fantasy 14 for over a year now and there is still a HUGE problem with gold spammers, so it's not really exclusive to F2P MMO's.

Out of the whole list in the article though DC Universe Online has to be my favourite. I have four characters (All max level) and I still love playing the game. Raiding is hard due to everyone thinking they're DPS but you do get the odd party that makes T3 Raids and on a helluva lot of fun.

I'm still an advocate for P2P though. If the MMO is big enough and really enjoyable then I think P2P is the best option.

Yeah I know that it happens in P2P MMOs as well as I have been playing WoW for 7 years now.

It's just more frequent in F2P due to the fact that it's free.

As much as I hate to shell out a monthly fee, I cannot disagree with this. In my experience subscription based MMOs are simply the best ones out there.

GW2 specifically cemented the fact that you simply cannot run a premium MMO properly without a sub.

Why do you say so? I've been playing GW2 since launch and find it exttemely polished and fun to play. Updates are constant and new content gets added often enough. For the R500 odd it cost it's tremendous value.

Haven't played it in months. What's its (folder) size now?

Have no back-ups, so Ill have to do a full download, if and when the time comes.

Sad part is i actually would. if i knew you that is.

Easy. Look up Royal Marines and search for Tsar. Okay, you might actually find something other than a human within that search...

Otherwise... S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
