Haha I know all about being impulsive. Thats why I bought a TD3 and cried myself to sleep two weeks later :P
I have the TD9KX I'm thinking of keeping it now though. Going to get Drumkits from Hell sample library and run it through Sonar. Thats like R3000 right there - not an acoustic kit, but id at least be able to play it whenever.

Honestly, the TD9 is not R6000 better than a TD4 but it's MUCH better. So if you have the ways and means, then do it. Or, just to confuse you, go for the TD12.
Other option, do you use cubase or sonar or any other DAW? Because then you can get a cheaper kit and run an audio library (like DFH or Superior drummer) through it.

Ok, I would not spend 10k on a lesser kit just because I don't have the funds for a much better one. Considering we're quite similar, you're going to love it for a month and then when you notice it's shortcomings you're going to be pissed that you bought it.
Unless you have some slamming percussion synths which you can wire the kit to when you get gatvol of the module sounds, I remain cold hard voice of reason Murph.

No they're not that expensive. Gretsch is associated more with jazz than metal or rock, which is the direction I want to take.

Same here. If I can find a decent second hand kit with all the hardware and cymbals for a decent price, it's worth it. Buying a new kit for R10000 for example and then having to spend another 3k on cymbals, 3k on pedals etc works out kak expensive. I'm looking at a fully pimped out Gretsch Maple for R7000. Just needs new heads.
