Ubisoft: Torrented their own music?

Apparently Ubisoft have included the pirated version of the ACB OST in the pre-order version.

Its a matter of principle not a legal issue.

They have the real thing easily available & customers have a reasonable expectation to get it. Yet they decided to provide a torrent'd version of inferior quality ( due to conversion).

btw a similar thing occurred with windows XP. One of the audio files is tagged as being edited with a cracked app.

It's digital media, quality remains constant throughout thousands of conversions and copies. Bang goes that theory.

It reminds me a bit of the Windows XP Debacle from years ago...

To all of you with legit copies of XP, do the following:

- Open the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Help\Tours\WindowsMediaPlayer\Audio\Wa v"

In there you'll find 9 .wav files which are played during the XP tour.

- Now open any of them with notepad.

- Scroll right the bottom and you'll find the Software cracker watermark "Deepz0ne ISFT Sound Forge 4.5 "

Sound Forge 4.5 is a normal encoder, but Deepz0ne is a member of the Radium crack group who exploited version 4.5 of Sound Forge.

WAV to FLAC is lossless, either WAV or FLAC to MP3 is lossy. MP3 to any other compressed lossy format is even more so, it increases with every lossy conversion ...

Fair enough. But counter questions:
1: Is the quality drop actualy audible?
2: If Ubisoft did the conversions themselves, would it still not be the same problem?

I have the winxp clean on a original cd and mine doesnt seem to contain those "pirated" files. Its not been updated, clean SP0

As someone mentioned, if the torrented version was FLAC, and Ubi then ripped it to MP3, the only quality loss in the process would be FLAC -> MP3, which would happen anyway, even had Ubi used their own originals (which are/were almost certainly in a lossless format).

Still, it does make them look remarkably stupid.
