Hey SaiYan it's Fast from ps3za :D
As for my preference I like all anime just none of the old school stuff. I prefer the more modern anime types. Any recommendations?

I'd recommend Deadman Wonderland straight off the bat - the first episode was made of several levels of epic. Blue Exorcist also looks quite interesting.
Hanasaku Iroha has managed to turn from one of those anime you could watch with grandma into ... well ... not sure, but the third episode really upped the fanservice levels. Drool-levels on the associated 2-chan channel have shot up, by all accounts. But I expect it will stay fairly mild. Nako has scored herself a lot of new fans though.
Astarotte no Omocha seems to be the loli anime to watch for this season, and Nichijou has been getting some fairly good reaction - flaky school-life comedy which has been scoring quite a few laughs.
Anyways, moving away from the latest release cycle, and taking a glance at the shows you mentioned - here are a couple of recs you may want to look at:
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - psychological thriller type - but very mixed. Plot goes in short arcs, starting off all bright and shiny and ending quite brutally. Effect of the violence is probably multiplied by the setting. It's very twisty, so you'll have to watch both seasons to understand - but it all makes sense in the end ... I think :p
Sekirei - I seem to be recommending this one a lot lately. Ecchi-action of note. Fun to watch though. Two seasons to date - I'm expecting at least a third.
Shiki - Another dark thriller type with vampires. Scored itself a bunch of pretty decent reviews last year.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - This one is pure drama - considering recent events in Japan it's almost predictive :) But also considered a very good watch.
Soul Eater - It's got a very wacky setting, but it turned into one of those series that I had a hard time putting down. It's got 4 introductory episodes for each of the main characters, and the story proper starts after that.
This could end up turning into a very long list. But start with those so long and see what you think :)
Higurashi: that series made me feel sick after every episode, not for the faint of heart.
Soul Eater: I enjoyed that, good mix of comedy and action
Nichijou: Only managed to watch half an episode, feels like a wacky version of Lucky Star
@Fast, how old is old school for you? Also, genre? No point in recommending "K-ON!" if you're not into school-girl anime :P Maybe try Black Lagoon?
If you enjoyed Trigun then you should try out Cowboy Bebop (series and movie). Still two of my fav shows.
Recently started watching Hunter X Hunter again, need to find some new anime now since TV series are all slowing down a tad :(
some awesome suggestions foxy
never really got into
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
is it worth it?
also what do you think of C?
i watched ano hi mita hana no namae again.. its pretty depressing but awesome end song
I think the whole twisty plot probably put a fair number of people off Higurashi, to be honest ... and at the end of the 1st season I was hella confused because I literally had no idea what was potting. Second season only served to confuse me even more, but in the second half they started working towards a conclusion and things became crystal clear at the end, although you still had to put some thought into it. It wasn't your typical sit back and veg type anime. I don't regret the time spent watching it though. Considering a rewatch, actually :D
As for C, haven't taken a look at it yet - I have so much anime to catch up on that I've let a lot of the new stuff slide so far - the only new shows I've seen anything of is Deadman Wonderland and Astarotte no Omocha.
Yea, i think i know what you mean. No Rurouni Kenshin for you then (although, half the series felt like filler anyway)
Code Geass was amazing. That, and Death Note, remain my favourite anime.
hmm... i enjoyed Black Lagoon and Darker than Black (although second season of DtB was meh), fair bit of action from those. Fairy Tail is quite decent, although the animation style isn't to everyone's taste (a lot like One Piece). If you're looking for a comedy, maybe try Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (sort of a rip-off of pokemon in a school setting), one of the funniest series i've watched.
Haven't had a chance to watch any of the new series (aside from Madoka), so can't recommend any of those.
getting the last 2 episodes of madoka!
