I've heard your argument a lot (well almost daily at work) and I'm sure you're right. I've just, in the case of Naruto, been spoiled with the dubs and have grown attached to their voices.

I sometimes struggle to get certain items due to most sellers not shipping out of the UK :(.

Saying dubs are bad outright is a bit of an overstatement, there are some good dubs out there as well but they are usually left for films or big budget anime series. Slayers has a awesome dub So does Yu Yu Hakusho, they are from the 80's and 90's so I can assume QC was at a much higher standard back then.
Code Geass and Death Note share are also acceptable dubs.

I take Naruto and Bleach come to mind easily as introductory mediums into the world of Anime due to their popularity and availability of dubs. However, are there other Anime series, that assist in easing westernised fans into anime a little more smoothly than the likes of Bleach?

With so much variety out there, it's really hard to know where to go next when your series ends because an added factor prevails that not every anime is made for every type of person - maybe we should start a thread on this.

I found fairytail and fullmetal alchemist brother hood have good dubbed versions.

well ahh >< download online if thats a option other wise a lan.

i had the same thing with OP i started with dubed but moved over in a few episodes after getting used to the voices and like them both. I have a whole bunch or buded anime that i recommend to new anime watches. makes them get used to it then loving it more and more. Anime junkies in gen i think go right for the subed due to being so used to it.

I'll be honest ... some of the first series I watched when I got "re-introduced" to anime were Slayers, Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. All dubbed. And initially, I didn't notice the quality of the voices - Cowboy Bebop's dub, especially is very good, and Evangelion isn't bad either.

However, as I ventured deeper into anime territory and started expanding my list of watched series (and my current list is insanely long), I got used to the quality of the voice acting in Japanese series - and I have now managed to re-watch all three of those series in their original Japanese. And regardless of how much credit I would like to give their English counterparts, I absolutely cannot go back to the dubbed versions.

Dubs are fine if you're being introduced to the medium, and a large chunk of the folk watching Naruto on SABC probably wouldn't have anything to compare against, but if you take your anime as seriously as I do, then subbed is the way to go.

That's my opinion anyways :)

Which is all that was needed. Thanks for the info. I can only assume that the Japanese express phrases slightly differently than us English speaking folk. I'll make a note to watch Slayers, Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop.

I've noticed that the sounds effects of the dubbed vs. the subbed versions also differ. Or am I imagining things?

Take that episode of Bleach where Ichigo goes full hollow on Ulquiorra. The way he screams differs between the sub and the dub.

I don't watch dubbed anime,I prefer the Jap voices and subs,gives the characters more emotion and more attitude.
