Yes, I believe it's a combination of the grammatical structure, and also their different tones of politeness - for instance, the way you address a friend vs a family member vs a superior vs some random person you meet in public. And then of course there are the various dialects which add their own unique subtleties and flavours. The most obvious of these is the Kansai-dialect, which is so radically different that I still can't understand it.

In the end though, the language itself fascinated me to the extent that I started studying it, but I'll go on record as saying it's one of the hardest languages for an English speaker to pick up - probably even more difficult than Chinese.

As is english extremely hard for Japanese people to master, our sentence structure in english vs. Japanese is vastly different, while my understanding is grade schooler at best (as opposed to Shadowfox).

Example:
English: The dog crossed the road
Japanese: 犬は道を渡った (Inu wa michi o watatta)

A direct translation (which is an very rough translation) into english would be: Dog the road crossed
There the verb (action, in this case the crossing) is at the end of the sentence as opposed to with the noun helping us to understand the sentence.

Apologies as I have stated above my skills are extremely limited at best.

I still love the fact the east is still such an exotic place. And the west to them is also pretty exotic. My first friend was half japanese and his mother was from tokyo. Use to bring me all sort of stuff from tokyo, so I have always had japan in my life :p I will visit it one day. I know quiet a bit about japan and its culture from her.

Apparently Korean is also relatively easy to learn - I wouldn't know for certain though, because that's a language I have zero experience with.

I heard it tougher than Japanese due it's Chinese written roots and entire new dialect with syntax etc. in comparison to those. Fortunately most Anime (If not all) is Japanese :)

It's been a while since I've watched any anime, but I've recently started watching RWBY which is rather different from anything I've watched that is classified as anime. The story, the animation style, and the overall look. I'm really enjoying it a lot though :)

I also need to stop reading Bleach or Naruto manga:o, or rather they need to get done with their stories, as good as they are at the moment...

Saw the trailers a while back, thought it was pretty good. Would like to get my hands on it.

That's the one. It's quite good IMO, but somewhat different from other anime series I've seen. The creators of the show (Rooster Teeth) have it on their YouTube channel.
