I find that shows that are exciting and have easy to follow tropes tend to become popular. Code Geass, GATE, Kill la Kill, Cowboy Bebop and so forth. The more obscure ones like Humanity has declined, Genhisken, Yozakura Quartet seem gain less of a larger fan base.
Although Bebop has a fairly simple plot, it's characters are fairly interesting themselves, which makes it a great starting show as well as a show to pull apart and critique. I personally hold a strong opinion for ShinichirÅ Watanabe's work. He has only ever made amazing things.
This week's exciting Shipuuden episode filled almost 3 chapters of manga, around chapter ~683 which means there is about 17 chapters and a few pages left. That can equate to roughly 8 episodes, 9 at most. It was what we where all waiting for some action with Naruto and Sasuke but, there was one time problem...
Next week is fillers, again. 458 saw the end of what we all though was fillers for the remainder of the show, but is now painting a much different picture. Will it all end at around 470, or will it progress to the mid 80's?
While I understand the need to fill in on how certain plot elements came to pass and it also enriches the world Masashi Kishimoto has created. It seems like a waste of time. They are so close to the end, why can't they just give us what we want? Closure to something that some of us have grown up with, I have been watching Naruto since around mid 2009 it's been seven years, lets just put this to rest now.
Try watching a show for about 16 years, that seems to have no end in sight. As opposed to teasing viewers every week.
*edit*
I finished InuYasha late last night, so now I can finally move onto the 2009 series for it's conclusion, which is very necessary, since the original despite being very good ended so badly.
