It follows it pretty much exactly. It ranks very highly on my to watch list. It has become a brilliant anime in its most recent form (brotherhood) . Definitely in my top 5.

FMA: Brotherhood is in my anime backlog :( i remember watching the original series, felt a bit dragged out imo
One series i'm really enjoying is Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be, which got me hooked on the series. Really hope that the remaining episodes get broadcast at the end of the month!
The Best Anime I've watched are:
Bleach
Code Geass
Angel Beats
Others that are also pretty good are:
Vampire Knight
Infinite Stratos
HOTD
Death Note
I am currently on an anime starve so if anyone can recommend something good to me please do :)
Swing your preferences and I'll see what I can dig up.
looks like he likes a bit of fan service, comedy and action
hahaha
angel beats was quite fun...
have you tried some of the new drama anime?
hanasaku iroha and ano hi mita.......
theres also deadman wonderland and blue exorcist
I'd recommend Deadman Wonderland straight off the bat - the first episode was made of several levels of epic. Blue Exorcist also looks quite interesting.
Hanasaku Iroha has managed to turn from one of those anime you could watch with grandma into ... well ... not sure, but the third episode really upped the fanservice levels. Drool-levels on the associated 2-chan channel have shot up, by all accounts. But I expect it will stay fairly mild. Nako has scored herself a lot of new fans though.
Astarotte no Omocha seems to be the loli anime to watch for this season, and Nichijou has been getting some fairly good reaction - flaky school-life comedy which has been scoring quite a few laughs.
Anyways, moving away from the latest release cycle, and taking a glance at the shows you mentioned - here are a couple of recs you may want to look at:
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - psychological thriller type - but very mixed. Plot goes in short arcs, starting off all bright and shiny and ending quite brutally. Effect of the violence is probably multiplied by the setting. It's very twisty, so you'll have to watch both seasons to understand - but it all makes sense in the end ... I think :p
Sekirei - I seem to be recommending this one a lot lately. Ecchi-action of note. Fun to watch though. Two seasons to date - I'm expecting at least a third.
Shiki - Another dark thriller type with vampires. Scored itself a bunch of pretty decent reviews last year.
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - This one is pure drama - considering recent events in Japan it's almost predictive :) But also considered a very good watch.
Soul Eater - It's got a very wacky setting, but it turned into one of those series that I had a hard time putting down. It's got 4 introductory episodes for each of the main characters, and the story proper starts after that.
This could end up turning into a very long list. But start with those so long and see what you think :)
Higurashi: that series made me feel sick after every episode, not for the faint of heart.
Soul Eater: I enjoyed that, good mix of comedy and action
Nichijou: Only managed to watch half an episode, feels like a wacky version of Lucky Star
@Fast, how old is old school for you? Also, genre? No point in recommending "K-ON!" if you're not into school-girl anime :P Maybe try Black Lagoon?
If you enjoyed Trigun then you should try out Cowboy Bebop (series and movie). Still two of my fav shows.
Recently started watching Hunter X Hunter again, need to find some new anime now since TV series are all slowing down a tad :(
some awesome suggestions foxy
never really got into
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
is it worth it?
also what do you think of C?
i watched ano hi mita hana no namae again.. its pretty depressing but awesome end song
I think the whole twisty plot probably put a fair number of people off Higurashi, to be honest ... and at the end of the 1st season I was hella confused because I literally had no idea what was potting. Second season only served to confuse me even more, but in the second half they started working towards a conclusion and things became crystal clear at the end, although you still had to put some thought into it. It wasn't your typical sit back and veg type anime. I don't regret the time spent watching it though. Considering a rewatch, actually :D
As for C, haven't taken a look at it yet - I have so much anime to catch up on that I've let a lot of the new stuff slide so far - the only new shows I've seen anything of is Deadman Wonderland and Astarotte no Omocha.
Yea, i think i know what you mean. No Rurouni Kenshin for you then (although, half the series felt like filler anyway)
Code Geass was amazing. That, and Death Note, remain my favourite anime.
hmm... i enjoyed Black Lagoon and Darker than Black (although second season of DtB was meh), fair bit of action from those. Fairy Tail is quite decent, although the animation style isn't to everyone's taste (a lot like One Piece). If you're looking for a comedy, maybe try Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (sort of a rip-off of pokemon in a school setting), one of the funniest series i've watched.
Haven't had a chance to watch any of the new series (aside from Madoka), so can't recommend any of those.
getting the last 2 episodes of madoka!
quite a decent ending...
also C is getting better but still very confusing!
Watching ergo proxy. Such a dark bleak anime. :-/
Kinda depressing in a way.
/rings door bell.
It difficult because if which genres you may like.
Animes that I really enjoyed are clannad and clannad after story. Toradora, Kanon 2006, Full metal alchemist brotherhood, ergo proxy etc. The first three are slice of life animes. The problem is that there are so many good ones out there but depending on the genre it makes recommendations tricky.
I find that a lot of the genres have a tremendous amount of cross-over sometimes, which also makes recommendations tricky sometimes. Series likes Kanon and Clannad do very well to stick to their respective genres (romantic drama), while some others are a little more varied (Toradora, which is romance, comedy, slice-of-life etc).
I enjoyed Toradora tremendously, the only problem I had with it was that Taiga fell out of exactly the same mould as Shana (Shakugan no Shana) and Louise (Zero no Tsukaima) - in other words, a small, underdeveloped tsundere for which they even used the same seiyuu. Not taking anything away from the show itself, but it gets noticeable after a while.
Anyways, I've been on an extended break because of the public holidays, and I've got more of a break coming up due to exams, but I'm trying to catch up to industry news.
Turns out mangaka Matsuno Akinari passed away over the weekend - meaning that MM! has now entered a limbo state. It'll probably never be finished.
The infamous Bill 156 which was passed last year is causing trouble already, with manga Aki Sora being banned from bookstores and publication because it depicts, among other things "incest". At the same time we see anime shows, even late night ones being absolutely destroyed by censors - 30-sai no Hoken Taiiku is practically unwatchable, despite the fact that the show is aimed at 30-year olds in particular. At the same time, manga series like ToLoveRu Darkness and anime series Seikon no Quaser are upping the ante, which probably just gives manga Nazi Ishihara more ammo to push his ban through.
I have to add though, as much as I'll admit to liking the odd bit of ecchi and maybe a pantsu shot or two along the line, it's becoming a little too much at the moment. I'd take a moment to compare for instance, Shuffle!, which was released in 2004, and this year's Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai - both Navel! productions. Shuffle! was awesome, decent story, likeable characters, and a bit of fanservice which was enjoyable because you weren't being drowned in it. The latter though - the first episode was epically confusing, character designs were so generic that by the second episode I still couldn't identify anyone, production values look like they were crapped out by a herd of incontinent cows - I'm actually disappointed even though I was looking forward to it.
Seikon no Qwaser released their second season now as well - and I'm not sure how many of you read my review, but the first season didn't justify a second installment. If anything, the second season looks like it's going to be even worse than the first.
This seems to be some sort of rebellion by the various publishers and creators against Bill 156, although I think they're going about it the wrong way - Ishihara's on a roll, and they're only giving the bloke more reasons to clamp down. And Japan's otaku crowd are not helping themselves either - I'm starting to think a greater share of the population are turning into NEETs who have no concept of what a 3D female other than Hatsune Miku actually even looks like.
Lol ... Full Metal Panic! - not Full Metal Alchemist :p
K-On! was a really fun anime to watch - if you're looking for something in a similar vein (keep in mind there's a second season) you might want to give Working!! a try (the "English" title is Wagnaria! [no, don't ask me, I have NO idea :/ ].
I watched the 3rd episode of Deadman Wonderland this weekend - I really think this is going to turn into one of those hidden gems. Everyone seems to be going on about Nichijou, A-Channel and all the other moe-type series out there - DW on the other hand is dark, violent, and it looks like it has a couple of decent plot twists up its sleeve in the near future.
Also - the opening and closing credit tracks are epic. To save you all the time searching, they are:
OP: One Reason - Fade
ED: Shiny Shiny - Nirgilis
I've been reading the manga and while it started out good it's kinda in a slow patch at the moment. It reminds me somewhat of Highschool of the dead. So don't expect many episodes.
