Red ring of death on xbox 360

Hi guys.
Can someone tell me if they have ever swapped out their xbox in bedfordview for a replacement xbox ?
I am wondering how long the replacements last ?
Mine broke a while back and I didnt have money spare to go pay the R800 to swap it for a replacement.
My xbox has never been opened / chipped to void waranty.
So my question is this ,
worth swapping out or rather open it up and do the bracket & thermal compound swap ?
(the error I get relates to a thermal error so its overheating at the moment)

Anyone who's ever swapped out their xbox360 care to comment ?

Any particular place you are referring to in Bedfordview?

I had a bit of water damage on my Xbox and I called all over the place to see if it could be fixed, and the broken parts replaced. All of the advice I got was to just get a new one.

I still don't have an Xbox :(

How old is your Xbox, if its sub 3 years Microsofts partner in SA will do the swop out no problem, and depending on their stock you either get a service model or a new console. I have swop out a few Xbox in my time, not all for me the new console generally last much longer cause the RROD issue is sorted mostly anyway.

However i am not in your area, so not sure if their are people that repair, in my expierence the thermal compound swap its a garanteed fix, as it usually last 2 months or so depending on your play habbits and eventually does more damage to the console.

I had my first one die on RROD and had it swapped out the Microsoft route. Was a bit of a pain with the previous SA repair partner so the sent me a new console with a DVD rom that was not working. So after much complaint and HelloPeter I got another swapout and it has been working since.

Try the swapout route, if not try some of these ads that will fix it for you.

My xbox is out of warranty so I need to pay in R800..

Regarding the Red Rings... how is the new slim consoles holding out? What is their failure rate?

If you go there personally then they will swapout the console while you are there. Last I heard it was R690 to have it swapped out if you go there. The replacement consoles have the latest internals so it should last a good few years. And it would last longer if you install your games to the Hard Drive and then play.

we fixed our xbox the 1st time ourselves with a guide found on the net...took about 1hr (the xbox is actually pretty hard to open) and r60 worth of goodies from builders and zaps and it worked for 8 months further

It regards to your question, as of yet there is no fail rate, because i have had my a long time and i play the hell out of it and shes still going strong no signs of problems or future problems

I've swapped out my XBOX 360 3 times since getting it at launch back in 2006 die to RROD. The process has always gone smoothly. Powercare was very efficient and friendly.
