Brackets then multiply then divide, that is the order. You need to eliminate the brackets first, hence multiply by 2 to get rid of brackets then divide.

Well, bearing in mind that I'm no mathematical adept here. I've LONG ago forgotten much of what mathematics I was taught at school and am just hazarding a guess at what I can recall. It might be right, it might be wrong :pQuote:

This should be read like this:
48
--- * (9+3)
2
if it was
48
------------
2 * (9+3)
2 and (9+3) would have to be in brackets as well, like this:
48/(2*(9+3))
So, as Ly says, go from left to right when dealing with both multiplication and division.
