Sounds interesting, but wouldn't that kill the xbox
Damn i hope so i have friends with 100's of xbox games.
And ive got a ps3!
So i will finally be able to play all those xbox exclusives!
i would say its a 50/50 chance this is going to happen...
Look at it this way
People with insane pc's will be able to run 360 games with relative ease i think thus saving them the purchase of a console
People with no money to afford an insane pc purchases the console (which is happening right now)
So in a way its a win loss situation for ms so i DOUBT this will happen, maybe tho MAYBE the games that you can purchase of Live will be playable on Win8 and not the actual physical media games.
call me crazy but this seems VERY plausible!
My reasoning:
If you can control the Console market AND PC market
imagine that, this could very well be true!
Yeah and an XBOX remains a cheaper gaming solution than a PC. Most people also prefer having an XBOX with their TV and a PC in a separate room.
This could work.
Two platforms being reached, this is where exclusive come in to play.
Don't take me wrong, I like the idea of having both on one platform. I should have quoted the guy above me for it to make more sense :) By the time I clicked post reply, several others had posted.
I think it'd be awesome. Would save me the trouble of buying an XBOX again.
well lets just wait n see
as the article states, its just a rumour, i also do kinda wonder HOW a game would be able to run off an XBOX and a PC
there is also questions such as if you buy it can it be used on ypur PC and XBOX, it terms of this if it can be "negotiated" correctly, we could see something like this coming out
it holds interest no doubt, often concepts that challenge the norm are frowned upon but i would write it off just yet...
I highly doubt it.
It makes sense in so many ways. More games would be sold. It gives a good reason to upgrade to Windows 8 and so forth. However...
Technically it may be feasible but it would still be quite an adaptation. I also wonder what kind of agreements Microsoft have with the publishers. Did they legally allow themselves to do this? I don't know.
It all makes so much sense and sounds so probable that surely Microsoft will not do it. :p
The concept behind this is pretty cool. Would like to see how this pans out.
Plausible? Probably not...how would they do that exactly? Would they design and Xbox exclusive emulator for PC...How would the controllers be coded so that it can support both keyboard and gamepad. Plus most Xbox games are coded with the specific hardware in mind...performance would probably be quite a large issue.
Profitable? I can't see many Xbox gamers wanting to play xbox games on a PC. Are there really that many xbox exclusive games that PC gamers would want? Most of the big titles these days are made for more than one platform so I don't see why they would want to go to all the effort.
An amalgamated system encompassing xbox and PC would probably be great for gamers but is just unlikely tbh!
I duno...maybe I'm just missing the point.
I can't see this happening... it removes the exclusivity of the XBox and it's games...
I mean, if you can play your XBox game on your PC, I will probably be able to play a copied version of your XBox game on my PC :)
I think its just a rumour because they would need one heck of an emulator that would have to account for everyone's differant PC specs. But if it pans out, maybe there would be so much hate from PC gamers - "consoles holding us back" attitude :P
This would be awesome. Having PC's that can play Xbox games would revive PC gaming and bring a wider variety of games to PC's.
and when is windows 8 coming out?
that would be crazy! Would love a chance to play some of the exclusive titles on Xbox 360
*holding thumbs*
Doesn't a console game kinda depend on standardised hardware? Would Microsoft have to come up with an "XBox-Ready" spec for PCs?
Doesn't the data on an Xbox disc require a non-standard DVD-ROM drive to read it? How would MS curb piracy of XBox 360 games if PC users were to be able to make copies of discs and play copied games?
Just wondering...
Assuming abit much there....PC would'nt neccassarily have to Emulate the XBOX game, instead think of something along the lines of Multi-support game that works both on an XBOX and a PC, that would be difficult to code but impossible? NOPE, think of this, imagine one DVD game that works in more than one kind of platform, thats industry changing stuff right there! again it is indeed plausible, having control or a market share into two platfroms is very possible, microsoft may be onto stuf they're not even telling us, perhaps the new OS will be so good that it has the built conversion from XBOX to PC platform coding (all hypothetical ofcourse), but dont be so quick it say "not possible" or "not worth it", its industry changing ideas like this very one that makes money. The details are just to little at this stage to draw a proper conclusion.
This makes me wonder if they are going to release the new XBox shortly after Win 8. Think about it... 100's of die hard PC users will suddenly pick up some previously Xbox 360 exclusive titles and likely pick up a controller to use with it, possibly fall in love, then when the "XBox Next Next Gen" comes out it will be easier to convince 'em to fork out the money and convert. Just a thought...
They just brought out Windows 7 and they're already considering plans for another OS :/ wow technology these days is moving so fast. I think it would be a cool idea just because PC Gamers don't always get access to console exclusives and they'll finally be able to.
Would be cool, I already have two XboX360 controllers. If the main profit comes from the games and not the physical console then why not.
I think the biggest problem would be piracy(would open massive door for it). Other wise good idea to keep old platform alive till next gen can be sold for a profit.
Some mixed views about this, I see. I don't think it will be a bad thing, seeing that there are some really good games out on the Xbox at the moment, which will have an extended life on the PC. There are a lot of them that were not available to PC gamers in the first place.
I like the idea, regardless of the hardware constraints. I am sure people who will be running Windows 8 will have enough firepower to do so, since that in itself will have some hefty requirements.
its about time because gears 2 on pc were is it.
You know this will seriously give the PC that extra needed edge... what does the pc so far have that consoles don't? (Looking at it from a liberal point of view)
It's got the better graphics thanks to DirectX 11... but this depends on the game. Some games looks fine on DirectX9 style graphics.
It might get this new feature... which will be a big thing if it happens!
We can do a lot more with our computers due to the broad specturm of uses for it. Such as printing and using other software and also customizing without breaking the guarantee/warranty.
If you do torrent some stuff (like I do, mostly series that haven't arrived in SA yet) you would notice that Xbox games hit the torrent sites EVEN FASTER than PC games, and I'm talking about multiplatform same day releases. Over the PC taking all the flack over pirating. I doubt this would make any difference.
From a financial point of view it makes sense, I don't think MS makes a lot of profit on the 360 hardware, most of it comes from the licensing to actually create games for Xbox, and the sales of the games themselves. So this will basically just expand their current market.
And with the XNA/Xbox devolpment framework it's very easy to target Windows and Xbox development at the same time, they could have some kind of middleware similar to DirectX running on Windows 8 to enable 360 games to work natively.
Will be interesting to see if they go for this.
not gonna happen, in order to play 360 on pc, u need an emulator, putting a built in emulator in windows 8 would not only hurt 360 sales, but it isnt legal as well if it were another company, it doesnt make any sense for them, putting an xbo360 emulator would only result in loss of profit for them. now WHY would they do that?! so yea, not gonna happen in a million years.
Oh please please do this so I can save buying another 360 since mine is really on it's way out :D
