Don't tempt me! If something new and different comes out, I'll prolly leave WoW (I tried AoC and that was bleh, WAR = WoW with collision detection on)
Voicy
Gimme a shout when you are heading over to Stargate. I'll come along for the ride for a month or so to check it out, and don't want to be fanny'ing about on my lonesome ownsome.
Back to a thought I had on piracy, I bought Mass Effect for PC when it released (pre-order) from Take2, got the disc, and I couldn't get it to work come hell or high water. Then I mate got a rip from somewhere, and I tried that, and it worked, I was seriously pissed off with EA international. Kudos to the guy from EA South Africa who helped me best he could with their then newly acquired title from Bioware.
But yeah, an early night out with the boys and a couple of drinks could easily amount to R300, plus you feel like shit the next morning and worry about the hag you chatted up while you had your beer goggles on.
I TRY and spend the R300's on games rather than nights out with the boys, but yes ... I am only human, and the gals at the clubs are way more appealing than the gals in Playboy the Mansion :D
Hmmm I use mini loaders when playing BF2 ... so I dont have to use the cd each time. (If I didn't have an original key I wouldnt be able to play online so shoosh)
Anyway, so I bought Medal of honor : airborne... it had such issues with my clone software that I eventually downloaded a crack for it.
That's right ... I had to resort to pirate software cracks to make my ORIGINAL game work... go figure.
That's actually a pretty ignorant way of looking at it. I don't pirate games, I really don't, but I also can't stand people who attribute the cause of rising game prices to piracy.
There are also many more ways to support a game maker than to buy his game. I think selling pirated games is retarded, but honestly, the guys who occasionally download a game, I wouldn't hold it against them too much.
If piracy were an absolute no and there was no way you could pirate games, game sales wouldn't really go up. In fact, they'd probably drop substantially. Think about it, piracy gets spread around, it promotes the game, and several people will, from there, go on to buy it original. That's just how it happens, and the people who pirate in the first place wouldn't be buying the game anyway.
My main position on this is that it is given more attention than the actual motive of making the game. Like, GTA IV made $500,000,000 in the first WEEK of its release. Yeah, the game producers aren't making less money, they're making so, so much more with the expanse network of gamers.
I might not be popular in saying this but seeing as the question was raised I do feel compelled to reply to it.
1. If more people bought their games instead of stealing them then they WILL be cheaper.:(
2. Yes pirating movies, games, music and whatever else you can download is stealing.
I refuse to watch a movie that I know has been downloaded, call me whatever you like but I feel strongly about this issue.
How would any one of you feel if you developed a game you were proud of, put all your time and effort into and sold, nada not one. Because everyone was busy playing it but they did not buy it but downloaded it off the net. Bummer hey.
I apologise if I offend anyone but I feel strongly about this.
I actually must object to that comment... I read on some forum that cracking your games (I mean legal copies) is not illegal at all as you are only protecting the software which you have purchased and its also not illegal as long as you don't resale, rent, or make multiple copies of for personal reasons.
Just thought I would let you guys know :D
I don't mind watching downloaded movies, because I believe the people involved the production are overpayed. For music however, I feel strongly that it should be bought. There are lots of great bands that are struggling, even with success. I generally download music and if its good I will support the band, if it is bad I press delete. As easy as that.
Games on the other hand ... urgh. Wa'eva. I'm pretty apathetic on this regard. Just me :\
I used to pirate when I had the PS1 and PS2. Now that I have the PS3 I can't pirate and to be honest I enjoy the games more because I don't have many so I end up spending more time on a game. Also the original discs, cases and manuals cannot be beaten. Plus in the case of PC games I need the serial key to play online. I'm neutral to this argument...flame me if you please :p
It can have an impact on prices, you need to understand that the developers need to have a plan in place to make a profit, piracy is included in their model, and they will counter the losses by increasing the price slightly.
Like I said, I have no problem with anyone pirating or downloading a few things, we're human and some things just aren't worth the price, and some things are impossible to find leaving piracy as the only real way to get what you need.
However I have an issue with the ones that do it constantly when they can afford to do things legitimately. I don't have money and yes I did have pirated ps1 and ps2 games which I'm giving to my girlfriend as they can't afford such luxuries in life. I can't afford ps3 games, but I buy 2nd hand to overcome this, even if I had a console which you could pirate, I still wouldn't
