I don't like the idea of having a billion-and-one accounts lying around. Aside from how absolutely RIDICULOUS it is to ask someone to have a bunch of digital distribution clients running in the background of their PCs, the idea of having the equivalent of "an account per game" is just ludicrous and messy.
The fact of the matter is that publishers are more than welcome to try their hand at emulating Steam but there is only one Steam. If you (general 'you') are interested in using Origin or whatever then by all means, you're welcome to it. I'll just be over here sticking to a digital distribution platform that has proven itself time and time again, has its own well-established achievements, servers, anti-cheat protection and in-game integration.
If anyone thinks that something as laughable as what the "great" EA can come up with--you know, those people who largely contributed to the failure that was Spore, who insist on spamming your PC with EA's Download Manager, who can't even maintain and effectively operate online support when something goes wrong with an account, could EVER compare then frankly, the joke's on you.

As I've said--Steam is a well-established digital distribution platform which has proven itself time and time again. "Established" means that it has already gone through many start-up niggles, issues and has proven itself as being capable. Its support staff are competent and able.
I've dealt with EA, repeatedly. EA are known--quite well, in fact, for being an incapable and largely blundering behemoth.
Hell, I've already explained all this, we're about to go around in circles as I explain semantics which, frankly, I'm not interested in right now.
Only advantage i can see is more competition but that can also have a problem when they all do exclisives

So I brought this Nissan. I like my Nissan. In my range of possibilities, I did a lot of research to find the right car for me. Now Sasol is saying that if I want to use their petrol, I can't have it pumped into my Nissan directly anymore. In fact their fuel plainly just won't work anymore, because they've decided that Sasol petrol and oil products will forthwith no longer work in anything but their brand-new released Sasol cars.
Sure. The analogy isn't perfect as Steam is, at it's core, a free platform. But with the games I have purchased for it already, it has long since turned into an investment.
