If the simple answer to games selling so well is hype, why aren't Sony hyping their games much more? How have Microsoft managed to put together a list of 53 games that have sold over a million copies via pure hype and Sony only 19? Hype is clearly not the defining factor in Xbox games selling so well.
Secondly, with regards to the Wii - it's aimed at the casual gamer market. The Xbox and PS3 are aimed at more hardcore gamers. Simply have a look at the game libraries and you'll see that. The millions of people who buy Wii games most likely have no interest in the PS3 and Xbox libraries and vice versa. You, clearly, aren't a Wii fan, but you can't use your opinion on the Wii to summarise its library of games as "terrible," just because you don't like said games. Millions of people do!
