It's really a clear case of people only seeing what they want to see. No matter how many proof folks point out that show signs of life in PC gaming, the doomsayers just ignore it all and regurgitate their stupidity.
Great article. Also a dangerous can of worms...I'm not sure why but this topic always seems to dredge up some serious emotions (obviously as a result of not getting enough hugs as a child). Somehow PC vs Console is akin to Middle East religion conflict (but more nasty).
The fact is it doesn't really matter. I am a PC gamer. I love the feel of a mouse and keyboard. I've also wanted to buy an XBox controller for a while now as some things do feel better with analogues. Both systems have a lot to offer and it depends on personal preference. Console fanboys who want to hate on PCs should remember that their beloved games are developed and coded on PCs. PC fanboys should remember that they are well outnumbered. :-D
I will always stay true to PC gamer. I love RTS and RPG games...and by RPG I mean games like Baldurs Gate...not these stupid watered down action/adventure console inspired games like Dragon Age 2.
However I will probably get myself a console sumtime specifically to play Mortal Kombat (and other fighting games), Fifa and maybe God of War.
I'm a complete PC gaming die-hard.
I own a PS3, but it only has some crappy game that it came with. It's simply just to connect my computer's Media Center to my HD TV downstairs, and to play blue-ray DVDs on.
Sure Xbox and what now are fun if you are at a friend's house and want to kill time for 30 minutes, but I couldn't stand spending more than that on it.
I enjoy playing on a computer because I like to multi-task. I'm constantly involved in some online community or another, writing gaming guides or simply speculating the best way to manipulate an MMO's market. Having access to FB/Twitter/G+ and my email are extra bonuses plus get to chat on IRC and skype with buddies.
I simply get bored easily, so most of the time that I'm playing a game I'm also watching TV or a movie, or making my own new iTunes playlists.
I really LOVE my PC, I have been a PC games LONG before consoles was as big as they are these days. I still remember playing Montyzumba Revenge (something like that) and Golden Axe on my PC as a kid.
But tbh... some games are meant to be played on Console. Driving games / Fighting Games etc is not that fun on a PC as it is on Console, in my opinion :)
I prefer PC Gaming, but cannot justify the ongoing spend that is required to keep up with the newest titles... I suppose if I played more games it would be worth it...
I have gone through a 8 year stretch that I upgraded or replaced my PC every 2 years. During that time I've never not been able to play a game on at least medium to high settings, including Crysis. Now that I play a little less games and also after I bought a PS3 my upgrades tend to be stretched to every 3.5 years or more.
I'll probably never not have a gaming PC even if it is not loaded with the latest tech but I still spend 90% of my gaming time on the PC and only the other 10 on the PS3. The consoles definitely has its place and if I was a parrent I would probaly get my kids a console before I got them a gaming PC because of cost and the fact that games always work without driver updates etc. So I understand the trends but not the all out criticisms.
PC gaming is not dead. As long as people have money for the latest tech PCs will lead the way in "cool stuff". Development for the PC might slow down but even then Indy development for the PC wont stop.
the question of "is PC gaming dead" is rather a matter of how game dev's feel about it more than we do actually.
Ultimately the game dev's choices effect that statement, the day dev's stop creating games for pc, well then pc gaming is dead, the day AMD/Nvidia stop making GPU's for pc well then you can say PC gaming is dead, but look around, AMD/Nvidia releasing new GPU's left right and centre. Even Activision as much as i don't like them dev for the PC, even though PC is pissed on with the COD series, they they still Dev for PC, on the other hand, look at DICE dev'ing for PC wtr to BF3, no PC gaming isn't dead, just look around.
When it cmes to "me" time, I also prefer pc gaming due to the fact that I can multi task. However, I find it's more fun playing PS3 / Xbox with a bunch of friends than lanning - maybe just because I can see everyone's crazy body postures combined with their %#! audio bursts :p
Pc gaming is dead, Long live PC gaming! :D
Its a point of outlook. Those that stopped playing PC and switched to console might also have contributed to the saying.
