Nah, I understand what you mean. From my side there is zero interest in owning a console. The only time it will be used in my house would be if friends came over. I just find it really sad that out of all the things PCs are capable of, people are idolizing an FPS, because let's face it, even though it has jets and tanks, it's not a very complex game type. I'd go so far as to say that FPS games are more casual games, which is proved by how dominant the FPS genre is in the gaming industry. Just look at Syndicate, as an example.
I love how PC gamers think they are the cocks of the block as they apparently have the superior platform and consoles are the ones to blame for the casual games. Uhem yeah PC's aren't to blame at all, hundreds of seek and find games, bejewelled type games, facebook games etc... The PC was the birth place of casual gaming as more people have PC's then they do consoles, I mean almost everyone I know has a PC of some sorts.
Yes the PC might have the superior graphics, but 6 years of development is to thank for that, also developers are porting to PC now as they actually make more money on the consoles so the games are developed for those then handed over to another developer to port in most cases, the PC gamer has unfortunately done this to themselves with years of rampant pirating. Yes there are pirates on the consoles but they are fewer. I know from experience I only really started to buy games about 10 years ago, before that I had hundreds of games just never one bought, and it was the same as my friends.
So don't go blaming consoles on the simplicity of the games coming out for the PC from the big fish, rather blame the pirates, also if you look at the indy developers there are some pretty complex and awesome games out, this Saturday I am drooling over the thought of spending a good four hours on Sins of a Solar empire, or perhaps Civ.
PC doesn't have Dark Souls (or Demon's Souls for that matter). Taking the above mentioned into consideration, console is the clear winner, obviously.
Oh yeah, consoles FTW, i told all you PC gamers...booya!
/crickets chirping
Oh...
My point exactly, the price of a console should be compared to the price of a graphics card and power supply for most people as they need a pc anyway.
Additionally none of the console arguments make sense other than the piracy one above.
Saying that consoles are obviously behind in graphics is a moot point. You are arguing against consoles and saying that is a reason why they are better? I can keep up with the latest PC games by spending a small amount every now and then on a few upgrades but the console is limited.
Even if i wanted a better experience i cannot have it on a console. The experience hasn't grown substantially in 4/5 years. I want my hardware to move on, I expect it to as there are better things out there and i want them... If consoles had a development cycle of 2 years I would be more inclined to look into them.
But yeah, this is quite a subjective topic as it is your own experience with a platform that counts... if you enjoy consoles more then why would you want to move to PC just because of some benefits that you may not even want and vice versa.
So the only problem I see is that games are using the lowest common denominator (ito capability) to develop for. instead of treating each as an individual or porting downwards so that quality loss is only due to the platform capability and not the addition of headroom for a platform (PC)
While reading I was thinking, dafuk? I'm gonna type one vark reply saying console gamers must just give 5 reasons to bail on my PC in gerenal... then it hit me :p
That state is one of console-deved dominance... delusion over.
