Hahahaha. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
Damn them console players :p
:D Haha I enjoyed that. The one thing I wish PC Gaming can get right is to install a game and play it. Every once in a while a game is buggy or doesn't install right or needs new drivers or anything like that. On a console you insert the game and play it.
Haha but yes I know this isn't another console vs pc thread. :)
I will bear this in mind as I play Rage on my PS3 at a reasonable framerate.
:p
Lololololol!!!
That's fekking funny :D!
I will bear this in mind as I play Rage on my PC with:
Better Graphics
Quicker Patch support
Better online community
Free online
Mods
Better sound quality
Better controls
Dedicated servers
Higher skill ceiling
Backwards compatibility
RTS games
Upgradable hardware
Better FPS games
Compatibility with any controller
Emulators for older consoles
More players per server
Better Frame rates
Cheaper games
Older playerbase
More mature playerbase

Hahaha.
Is the only thing that console gamers can use against pc that they can still play games? That's pretty lame.
What about playing on your tv.... Easy multiplayer with friends without having to bring a RIG... Sitting on a couch while you jam.... Comon... You can do better :P
@James: Brilliant post btw

Damn that dude has pretty much every angle covered. Still can't spell "compatibility" though.
But this is precisely why you buy a PC (and I mean a good one that actually is able to out-do consoles) for about R12 000.... where a console is roughly R4000. I mean, obviously a PC can be more if that is what you are paying.
And remember, for those not-too-hard-core-gamers out there, console interfaces are far friendlier than PC's. For those of us who understand how to utilize our PC's properly, you've also got millions of people who are not as jacked-up for whatever reasons. And consoles don't give you as much s*** as PC's do, and I'm talking about virus's, upgrading, fsking STEAM, and all that jazz.
Rage Textures are ‘Exactly the Same’ on all Platforms, Says John Carmack
Then again, we all know this man is a filthy liar.
to answer the question:
1 can hack my own pc as much as i like
2 emulation sofware
3 Upgradability
4 mouse
5 alt-tab (the boss key)
I'm sure that quotable quote is obfuscating the truth to a certain degree.
The environment and character artists will probably have super-high resolution original textures that they have created for the game. These then get scaled down to different sized packages to accommodate for a range of hardware capabilities.
So, while the textures are taken from 'exactly the same' source, by the time they are rendered out on the various platforms, the quality will differ. Overall resolution also effects detail. The console version also has to implement some serious level-of-detail techniques due to its limited texture memory. I've seen this first-hand when I got some hands on time with RAGE.
So, a powerhouse PC with tons of RAM and VRAM and an 8-core CPU will obviously have a graphical advantage over the ageing consoles. That's not to say the game will look bad on consoles, just not as good as it does on a high-end PC. But we already knew this :P
Likewise, an old PC is going to perform poorly compared to the consoles.
PS: I'm not a console hater.
Yeah, I know, but sometimes I just like stoking the platform war fire for my own amusement.
:D
For some reason none of that actually bugs me, firstly I don't hear better sound on the PC even with my Asus Xonar D2X compared to my consoles, yes graphically my PC might be better, but let's see sit at desk with a 24" monitor, waiting for it to install, download new drivers, configure it to make it work on my PC, keep tweaking it to get the best FPS vs GFX.
Compared to get home, slide Gears of War 3 into my xbox 360, sit or lay on my couch looking at 46" and having dolby surround sound on.
Time and money spent makes console a much better choice, but you do get people for some reason who honestly care about that instead of just enjoying the game on whatever platform they have.
No. Your dolby isn't sitting at your pc... So add that to the cost as well as the difference between a 24" and a 42".
Secondly... R4000 pcs outside 4 year old consoles as well as being able to use it for more than gaming and movies.

Was happily playing Fallout 3: Las Vegas on my PC (with Xbox 360 gathering dust), until my Graphics Card (XFX 8800 GTX) gave in. Still playing my Xbox 360... ain't gonna bother with replacing my Graphics Card.
My console is reliable (had no problems from the start) and I love that Black Beauty to bits :D
I really want to upgrade my PC but those damn console games keep tricking me into buying them.
Firstly have you heard a decent sound system hooked up to a pc? secondly yes playing on a 42" is nice but remember you not right on top of it like the pc monitor.
And I can do many things when my game is installing:)
But I do enjoy using a controller:p for certain games. But prefer the xbox for "Arcade" games.
Nope the Dolby Surround isn't at my PC, just a normal analogue 5.1 system, also just lately a 24" monitor isn't that far off a 46" TV ;-)
Also a R4000 PC will probably be on par with a console, which also can watch movies and play games on, remember both the Xbox and the PS3 have Divx support too, while a R4000 PC might be able to handle MKV, but as I said each to their own, I'm fortunate to have a choice and I do spend more time on my consoles, mainly the 360 over the PS3
lol nice post James. Give us the matches, sit back, and let us start the flame war.
I see what you did there, well played sir :p
A 1080p 42" lcd is the same price as a 24"? Dont get me wrong some games on console are boss.
I said a few things I like about consoles earlier, but a lot of the points console gamers use are the "it can also do that" types...
The pc can do what a console does and so much more. If I wanted to, I could use a tv with hdmi and home theatre audio and even with an xbox controller...
Also more and more consoles are moving towards installing games. Mainly due to laser disc player speed problems.

My console is easier to play, for the reasons Lupus said.
Get home, turn on PS3, play a game on my home theatre system.
It's not about "but I can get better sound for my PC" or "the larger screen can be plugged into the pc", but rather the fact that they are already there :)
If I want to play a PC game, I have to go sit in the study with earphones on, and this is why I never play PC games. Console is fun when my friends come over, and we can sit and play PS3.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE both types of gaming, and each one has it's own benefits outside of pure hardware or performance specs.
It comes down to whats accessible to you, what you are comfortable with, and to some degree when you got involved in the gaming culture, and what mediums you were introduced to. Someone like me who has been involved in gaming from a young kid starting on consoles(SNES era and Sega Saturn) and moving to using a PC as my main platform, there is one thing that remains constant. The device you play on is just a mean's to an end, that allows me to have the game experiences I want to have and be entertained. Over time that has just evolved. I once owned a Playstation, Sega Saturn and a PC, I now own a PS3,Xbox360 and PC, they are just a medium for me to enjoy the games I want to play, and dam them for making so much money off of me :D
Thats epic ! Good post ! Now only if I could always run my games on max settings everything would be golden :D
That's the thing, they are all accessible to me, the 360 and PS3 are in the lounge, the Wii is in the bedroom, the PSP is next to the bed and the PC is now relegated to the garage due to baby taking it's old room ;-). I also grew up with PC's our first being a commodore 64 back in the early 80's, then my dad got me an NES, and then later we got a Megadrive all while our PC was constantly upgraded too. Then got a PS, still had a decent enough PC so played both, I think it's just been in the last couple of years, since my PS2, Gamecube and Xbox that I started to play less on the PC then the others, I don't know why perhaps cause of ease of use.
Yeah same I started on consoles. Sega nes and game gear(yes handheld:p) But I just prefer gaming on pc. Fighting and arcade games are better on console.
PC really owns in every department except for one: Exclusives.
Consoles (And more specifically the PS3) will always have the better exclusives.
That is my my point. If you can get both then do... But if you need to choose one... Choose the one suited to the games you enjoy.
My problem is that I only enjoy a few games on console and most of the games I like work better on a pc. So why get both? Not really worth it so I would rather put that money into an even better pc... Which is use for playing and work anyway.
If you like jamming on a console and don't mind the limitations that are involved then do so. Trying to say either platform is objectively better is pointless.
I love pc and don't know if I would ever switch to a console... But I understand some of the appeal of consoles.
What I dislike are console users trying to say that those limitations don't exist. Maybe then they will fight for a faster development cycle as well (maybe with some awesome keyboard and mouse replacement :P )

LOL! F'n told. FAIL.
Have to agree with Duke though - the exclusives are the one thing that gives you the finger as a PC gamer.
