I remember Cybernet. Used to watch it also.
Holy crap, what a stupid presenter! I'm glad that dude is married, I dont think she was expecting that...but he should've told her to get back in the kitchen where she belongs :p
But seriously, gaming is fun...thats why we do it?! How hard is it to understand.

While I agree that this segment wasn't good at all, I think the level of abuse that has been directed toward Lalla isn't warranted.
She was the face of the production, but there was a whole team involved in creating it, and The Verge as a whole should be shouldering the responsibility.
Sure, people may feel strongly about the stereotypical and insulting way in which gamers were portrayed in the segment; but it really isn't doing the gaming community much justice to react with puerile insults and threats of physical harm.
Is that the preferred image for gamers?
My feelings on this are pretty much that she deserves whatever backlash she gets. She chose what to say, how to say it and took it upon herself to be an utterly demeaning and ignorant git. I agree, her production team are also to blame: they were lazy and didn't think it necessary to edit, change up or redo.
I think that if you treat anyone with such disdain, especially an entire community, you're bound to turn them into what you want them to be and the less thick-skinned of that community are bound to take personal offence to it.
Personally, I find it offensive and downright derogatory. I even sympathise with people who feel like braining her. Not that I believe they would actually do that and nor would I. She's hardly worth jail-time and it's simply a bare and ineloquent expression of frustration.
My point is just that I think the foolish little airhead of a girl received an equally foolish response. I don't feel sorry for her in the least. But yes, I think that some of the reactions are degrading to the gaming community as well. I just understand where they come from and how they feel.
It's even on Reddit now :D

Mappy you can't go around wacking people with a keyboard. It might damage those keys :p
Shit, never thought of that :(
The Verge is sorry to read that some viewers were upset by the light-hearted nature of one of our thirteen reports from rAge 2011. As an official media partner of of the expo, we covered every single angle of the event, including running a joint stand with the organisers, NAG. The detailed nature of our reports and strong all-round presence should indicate a healthy respect for gaming culture and the people who participate in it. Vuzu is an entertainment channel and we think humour is an important aspect of that, so hopefully the small number of viewers unhappy with the LAN report will see the lighter side of things.
