Don't know about the 5850, but the 6950 is an underclock 6970, the only difference between the cards, physically, is that the 6970 has an 6 and 8 pin power connections and the 6950 only has 2x 6pins.
I downloaded the bios of a 6970, flashed my card with it and changed the gains in CCC to +20.
3D Mark 11 went up from 4900+ to 5400+, can't remember exact figures.
Ah ok because I read up on flashing a 5850 but there is a physical difference in the cards, apparently, which is 1200 stream processors. And apparently flashing it causes problems. Don't know how true that is though. Never know how technically adept some of the people are on internet forums lol :D
