Aion wants second place in MMO market
not sure whether to laugh or cry about mortal online and aion, but if and if mortal online is actually a decent work at launch it will take conan and might be able to be a good challenge. even wow is getting to implosion time, why possibly blizzard is going for their next mmo. there is also Huxley Dystopia in the mix which might be good (sorta action mmorpg kinda hellgate clonish). finally not so far of is funcom's new mmo, their next IP after conan; who knows what that might bring us looking at how conan was in its nappies...
All I can say is, that I'm definitely going to be playing this. Been eyeing the pre-order for some time now
It looks very pretty but nah it still won't draw me into MMO gaming. Should Star Trek Online get good reviews then I'll go for that.
Gonna give this a bash for sure.
Very keen for this one after the things I have been reading. I do not easily give into hype or misinformation about games.
This game seriously looks to stand a good chance at doing very, very well. I do not think it will hit a cord with every WoW player per se, but I think it should reach an easy 2-4mil population in the West for an extended period of time.
Haha maybe I will end up eating these words a few months after release!
Good luck to them. Word straight from the horses mouth (beta testers i know) is that Aion is a carbon-copy of WoW. Considering how grumpy the WoW community is these days, I don't think many will be too enthralled with the idea of World Of SameCraft 2.0.
Looks interesting, one of my friends is beta-testing Aion. And he rates it pretty well :)
I've been beta testing myself - and so far I've been pretty impressed.
I wouldn't call it a carbon copy of WoW - although I have to agree that there are a great deal of similar elements.
But you can fly!! How cool is that? :p
heh, that sounds pretty good though :)
but WoW being so popular, comparisons are inevitably going to be drawn between the similiarities between the two.
Hehe, watching how many MMO's you love to play Lydon I am sure you will give it a try, that is for certain. Maybe we should consider all of us hooking up on the same server (likely going Asmodian here, but if overplayed then Elyos).
I really hope it ends up being decent, or else I fear I may go off this genre for quite some time considering all the letdowns in the recent past :(
Sounds like a plan!
I, however, can't see myself giving up MMO's ever. I feel far too lonely in single player games lol.
Haha I know EXACTLY how you feel. After playing so many MMORPG's I find that when I achieve something in a single-player game that somehow its meaningless since no one else is ever going to really know. There just feels more weight behind my time spent in a MMO.
But I do still love my single player games, just far more time usually goes into games like Aion.
But yeah back to looking at hooking up in Aion we can smack out the details closer to the time.
I just seriously wonder how you manage to get anything done with the amount of MMO's you seem to play at a time? Those games are utter timesinks! >_<;;
Gap years are fun ;)
I went Elyos for my character :D
There's another beta this weekend - so I'll probably be putting in a few more hours. Might be the last one before launch, although I'm not sure about that.
I might buy Aion depending on what kind of reviews it gets.
Yeah I will go for which ever race is less played. Playing the overplayed race in these games is usually little fun. That side while still winning overall in ORvR will generally have lesser quality of PvPers in instanced or skirmish type PvP I have noticed.
I was going to play in the Beta... But after having to fight with BTGames to try get a copy of the client, and then finally getting it only for one of the discs to be screwed up - I just gave up (it may seem like little effort but I had to fight a LOT to try get a copy, and also put people out of their way to try get it).
Pre-ordered a CE Aion about 3-4 weeks back.
I will wait on release then just update then. There is no huge rush to play, even though a few weeks ago my temperament would suggest otherwise :p
I got a liiiiiiitle too worked up trying to play in the Beta *cough*
My only problem with it is the world instances/channels, similar to what they done to Age of Conan- which made me quit it in the end. But I'm not sure to what extent it is, as I heard from someone on the net that it is only for lower levels.
My other concern is that there's no where locally where I can pre-order! If I order from US, it's going to take like 2-3 weeks to get here after release :(
You can pre-order from BT games if I don't have it wrong. There must be somewhere, I know of a couple of blokes who have pre-ordered it already.
Actually, while I'm at it ... here's the linky
Must be painful playing on US times. I used to play WoW on a US server and it killed me having raids start at about 2-3am SA time.
I used to swear I would never play on EU servers but I quickly changed my mind when I found how amazingly convenient it is. It is impossible to properly play on US servers in SA unless you become nocturnal and have a super flexible lifestyle.
And as far as instancing goes, yeah I do agree, I much prefer open seamless worlds, but in reality it is not as bad as some people make it out to be - instancing that is. Most MMO's use it to varying degrees, of which Guild Wars is the WORST.
I quit AoC because of its Beta quality at release, and Funcom who really do not give a crap about their customers (the 1st year anniversary event was perfect testament to that!)
I'm worried this heap of a PC isn't going to run it lol :( It's struggling with WoW of all things these days.
So depressing...
Haha you sound like me.
The only reason I played on US was that I could not wait for an EU release, which if I recall was almost a year after US. I struggled through those raid times, but it caught up after a few months and I had to rethink my plan (never again).
@Lydon
As far as I know Aion is a little more intensive than WoW, but it is not a PC killer from everything I have read, it is pretty scalable.
It's going to have to scale pretty low xD
Quite a lot of hype around this game. It should have quite a start and then lets see how far it gets.
Yeah I am very cautious about MMO hype due to the recent letdowns in the genre. I may be wrong, but since Aion has a large player-base already in Asia (about 4mil last I read somewhere), and we will be getting an updated version after several months of patching, that it should be a LOT better than games like AoC and WAR at release.
Perhaps I may eat these words, and if that ends up being the case, well, then I honestly give up with getting excited for this genre...
Don't not worry yourself overmuch, tehNihilist. :)
News of GW2 has been promised before the end of the year, i.e. 'soon', so I am waiting with great anticipation for this one. There is still hope for this genre. ;)
News will most likely be released at PAX apparently.
News of GW2?
Nope, don't think so. They (Regina / ArenaNet) have specifically stated a few times there will be no news about GW2 at PAX.
They will have a normal GW stand and Aion will mostly feature.
The CR''s have been wrong / misinformed before, so lets hope maybe they changed their minds and didn't tell anyone and that there will be some big GW2 announcement at PAX :D
I can't remember where I heard it...I'll search when I'm off my local account again haha.
But they did say they will make some announcements this year, and it seems logical that they would make them there. Maybe they changed their minds xD Who knows.
It does seem that there are rumblings on the different forums that they will announce something at PAX, i.e. a 'surprise'.
There is also the Gamescon towards the end of August, PAX is beginning September.
Discussions and assumptions are the order of the day after Mike said 'news very soon'.
Time will tell.
Hey peeps.
I've been looking forward to this game for quite some time now. It is quite disappointing to see that NC Soft and Megarom are doing very little to promote this game in South Africa (Africa as a whole, in fact). When you search you'll find that even Australia already has two official community fan sites!
Anyway, a couple of local Aion fans got together and started aionsouthafrica to try and at least get one strong local guild going for each faction (Asmodians & Elyos). It's just so much better to play with people who 'speaks your language', if you know what I mean...
There will be an open beta event soon so now will be a good time for those curious peeps out there to give this game a try.
