Thanks to everyone for participating. We might just try a similar yet new and improved version of this competition in future :)
You sure I only got 7 votes? my nephews going to be so disappointed now, how am I going to break the divorce news of his parents without the PS3
Who gave me the 22 votes at the end then? Cause I doubt they were shills
What the hell are shill accounts?

I presume its a clone account

No way you had 60 clone accounts voting for you.
I even voted for you.
thanks for the vote and thats what I find very puzzling.
Was watching the last hour or two and saw many voting for me and I also doubt they were
Also checked the welcome new member thing and saw no clones being made during that time
Showee, unbelievable! :wtf:
clone: several accounts made by the same person to decoy votes
So I would have had to made 60 decoy accounts which is bull. One reason I hate voting competitions also.
Mygaming is becoming like mybb with fixed results
My family is angry that we didnt win cause of this
This is the most grossly unfair competition system that I have ever come across in my entire life.
Firstly, with the competition being about how interesting one's topic was I thought I was going to win because clearly, my topic garnered the most amount of interest - judging from the replies and views I had to my thread (56 replies and over 1200 views). No other contending interesting topic could match these stats.
Secondly, I was prepared to congratulate Ichigo for winning because he had more votes than anyone else, by a landslide.
Tell me how that is not unfair.
I personally encouraged most of the people who voted for me to sign up to MyGaming to vote for me. Yes, these are new people, but was it not the purpose of this part of the competition, for MyGaming to gather new accounts. Many of the people who voted for me are avid gamers themselves, and most are from PS3za.
So, let me get this right. The real voters are voters who had been members before the competition and shell votes are the voters that were recruited in the voting process?
Explain to me please because none of this makes sense, particularly because the competition wasn't really about the competition (the interesting topic) but about one's popularity and secondly, the votes that count are only those of long time MyGaming members?
Is that not defeating the whole purpose of the interesting topic competition and shooting yourselves in the foot at the same time by punishing those who have recruited the most number of new members?
+1 to everything you said and very well written McCrazieGoalz and there was no rules to say you cant recruit people to website to vote.
Changing the rules on spur of moment is wrong and I think you need to check what shill means James.
Shill = decoy account not new people signed up
Rules are like a written contract we agree to when we enter.
Congrats Crzwaco! :D I think I voted for you. It was a tough choice.
Lol, what a balls up man. Saw it coming a mile away.
Hope James reconsiders the winner, cause it just said the community must vote for interesting thread and aren't new members part of the community?
If I become a new member of a church etc. I am allowed to vote there isn't a block cause I am new.
One of my friends who joined and voted for me was so interested in the site and going to tell him its crap and fixed with the big prizes.
There were a lot of new accounts created which have only done one single thing since joining the forum - voted on the competition poll. They haven't even made a single post. Hardly part of the community and very likely shill/fake/spam accounts created for the sole purpose of voting. I can see all of this (non)activity in the back-end of the forum.
Notice how similar the scores were once these nonsense accounts were removed, filtered down to accounts made before the poll went up.
The decision is final.
I think having your mates sign up just to vote for you is another form of cheating, because us (The community) who are currently here and have contributed way more will obviously choose who we feel deserved the votes more. Like James said, to have your mates come here, sign up just to vote and not add anything of value to the forum needs to be scrutinous and what James did was right to take out those who are just pushing for votes in every way possible.
This is MyGaming not PS3za, we are a different forum entirely.
Well said +1 I couldn't agree more. Away with the fake accounts!!
Nope not getting over that it was a sham, even with 1 post people I still had at least more than 10 regular members voting for me and cause you cant see it James can post any figure he wants.
Anyone with that many posts will just agree to the shams since they win since they are part of the problem
How do I beleive you counted right since more than 10 people voted for me I am sure at end from community since there were no new clone accounts made during the time.
They would have had to been made before competition started since I was checking new member log since the start of the competition.
So dont lie you make the community fail when you fix the results when the rules wernt stated properly even my brother whos accountant agrees.
I use to beleive you were a sincere cool guy, but not anymore.
The point is not shill accounts whatever its the point is that I had more than 10 regulars voting for me
Crwaco was all copied pasted without links to the source which is illegal
This was a MyGaming community vote. Having people come in from another forum and register to vote for you isn't fair. They're not part of the MyGaming community. It would be like shipping people in from another country for an election.
This rule wasn't stated because it's common sense.
I voted for Ichigo but I think this comp was handled very fairly.
Well I saw that you put a lot of effort into it. Plus it was something that appealed to me which set it apart from the other choices.
/I hope everyone else voted according to those reasons as well but unfortunately there isn't much of a way to prove it. That is the problem with these types of comps.
Maybe for the next one it could be only staff choosing or staff having a bulk of the decision with community making up the rest of the vote?
James can see every single vote and voter on the forum backend. Anybody with only one post who registered and voted after the competition started was disqualified (including "subtle" accounts like name1, name2, name3, I shit you not). There's nothing random about it.
And stop with the comments about your nephew - it's nothing more than a cheap attempt at manipulation, and it reflects very poorly on you.
In the forum admin panel I can see exactly which accounts voted for which option on the poll. It is a simple matter of checking when those accounts were created. I triple checked my count, using two different methods - there were no mistakes.
Because of the obvious and blatant vote padding, the simple criteria applied to all entrants was to remove shill/fake/spam accounts from the voting figures - accounts created after the date the poll went live that have done nothing other than vote on the poll. As everyone can see, there were a few entrants who had their final score revised down.
Checking IP addresses and user names, it is also clear that a number of accounts were registered by the same person, for the sole purpose of padding votes. This is actually grounds for disqualification, but because the revised result included only votes from community members established before the poll went live, I deemed it a fair final result. Everyone was measured by the same stick and all legitimate community votes were counted.
As for the laughable accusation that I rigged the vote: I could refute it by posting the list of who voted for which option on the poll for all to see and verify for themselves. I have nothing to hide in that regard. However, I will not be doing that because the votes are made anonymously and likely not all members will want to have their votes made public.
The decision is final. No amount of (ironically) questioning my integrity, demanding to see the list of voters, or making idle threats to no longer contribute to the MyGaming forum is going to change that.
100% agree with you James.
Maybe next time have a post count limit where people have to have a certain amount of posts (say 50) in order to be able to vote, thus eliminating shill accounts for padding? A higher number would be better so we don't get people trolling threads much as 50 does take a lot of time and its easier to notice and then ban accordingly?
Lessons have indeed been learnt. However, I stand firm in my view that a fair criteria was applied to all entrants in this case.
This was as much a trial of a new type of competition as it was something fun for the community to get involved with.
Based on this response we'll think some more about how to do such things in future.
Fair enough, but the rules should've been stated earlier. There were a few of us who pointed it out pretty much as soon as the voting began. Mephisto_Helix and I especially. It was blatantly obvious that there was going to be vote whoring.
I do agree however that this was the best option, removing the shill accounts. But it could've/should've been communicated earlier.
Great contest regardless. Keep em coming! :)
I am one of the people who voted for Ichigo and set up an account for the sole purpose of voting only.
That asside i find it quite amusing that everybody is getting so uptight about how the votes were generated with this being a Gaming site, where all you guys do on here is play in a world that is generted for your own benifit, to game and beat the other guy.
Yes i get all the other issues of gamers only etc should have had a say or vote but hey this was just another game where Ichigo won the game. There are no rules in a game and if you find a cheat to get you one up on the other guy then hey what is the problem, do you go out and tell everybody how you did it probably not. So are you telling me that no one on this site has used a cheat in a game before to get ahead, sure you havnt.
Its easy to hide behind a forum and sling stuff at the other guy but it really makes no difference in the scheme of things. Good luck to the winner and hope you enjoy the PS3 and always wanted one!
Actually, there are rules - you are required to read them when you register: MyGaming Forum rules
Interestingly, I can also see that you have the same IP address as a number of other accounts all created within minutes of each other that all voted for Ichigo.
