Maybe it's too early in the morning, but.... what's going on?
Bwahahahaha! First Racism now Homophobia who wants the next swing at gaming. This is beyond idiotic. As the article says the gay-hating dude didn't actually contribute to the game so why the big fuss.
What i find truly ironic is that gay people (i presume gay people are boycotting the game), who always fight for their right to see things their way, is now boycotting something because someone else doesn't see it their way. Its like someone ask a homosexual person, "why are you gay?" and the homosexual person replying, "because i choose to be." Now their throwing a hissyfit coz some guy chose not to like homosexual people. I really don't understand people.
I believe everyone has the right to like and dislike people for whatever reason. It's all part of being human. No one said we all "had" to get along. Respect each other, tolerate each other and not go out of our way to make someone else's life miserable, sure. Get along? Nope.
I also believe that throwing your tits in the air because you don't like the mindset of someone who worked on something you DO like is, well... Ridiculous. You won't change the world by acting like a drama queen.
For example, I don't like Anne Rice. I think she's a confused, batty old hag. But, her books are superb. So, I support her works, even if I don't support her.
Yeah, I'm with you (although I loathe Anne Rice AND her books). I listen to a few bands with vile ultra-Nationalistic ideologies - guys who've been jailed for murder and church arson, and who advocate white supremacy, for example - but ... well, I like their music.Quote:

If you want to protest Card's ideologies, there are better ways to do that than silently and anonymously refusing to play a game.
Drawing the line at what is acceptable and what isn't is never an easy task.
Especially when it involves digital or printed entertainment that is based off works done by an author or writer that is himself overly opinionted or biased.
My personal opinion on the matter is that every person has a right to voice his or her own opinions, and likewise each and every person ahs the right to chose what they watch, play or read.
Escaling this into an issue that "Demands" boycotting or other subversive actions, is to be completely honest laughable at best.
Party A says Party B is unacceptable due to Race, Creed or Religion.
Party B, focusing on this mindset, demand boycotting of Party A, thereby taking a stance that the work, or words produced by Party A is unacceptable due to Race, Creed or Religion.
That's hypocritical, I can't convince myself otherwise no mater how I try to see anyones point

I can't help thinking that these gay activists or whatever are trying to get him fired because of his ideological preferences in much the same way as trying to get someone fired because they don't like wearing pink. I mean, really, wtf? It's hypocrisy. It's them trying to prove that their rights are more important than his. So what right do they have to whine when Card tries to do the same regarding his opinions of gay marriage?

Orson Scott Card is actually quite a renowned novelist, particularly in science fiction, with a pretty formidable bibliography and a fair few literary awards to his name. He's also responsible for the novelisation of a couple of films, including Alien and The Abyss. I'm quite astonished anyone might not have heard of him.Quote:

I don't know what to say. I think he has the right to feel whatever way he does, just as the gay activists have the right to feel whatever they want. But neither party has the right to force their ideologies onto the other. Ideally, gays and Cardigans (heh... I'm so funny...) should have equal rights, including the right to get married. Card wants to keep gays inferior to him for whatever reason. I think it intimidates him.
*shrug* The legal choice is obvious, either everyone has equal rights, or they don't. I don't see what there is to debate about or consider. I guess the rights of the many will always infringe on the rights of the few ;)
Still, I agree. There are better ways to protest.

As for the game, he didn't have any involvement with it, if I read the article right. It's merely based on a world he created. So, seriously, the whiners need to go off and find something worthwhile to moan about, like people who don't indicate while changing lanes. Personally, I find that a little more annoying than someone who doesn't like gays.
