Power supply for a new computer

Hi all,

Just one question. I'm planning on building myself a new computer, nothing outrageous, just something for the new games out there, but I'm a little bit unsure about the power supply that's capable of running the machine.

The specs for the system are as follows:
Asus Rampage II Extreme
Intel Core i7 920
Corsair Dominator G1600C8D 3x2GB
XFX Geforce GTX275 896MB
1TB Seagate


Now I'd love to save money and get myself this:
Coolermaster Extreme Power 650w

But I'm worried it probably won't be enough to power the system sufficiently. Now there are other options like:
Gigabyte Odin 720Watt True Power and the Coolermaster Real Power Pro 850w.
So now I ask from you guys which would be the most cost effective PSU to use whilst keeping a stable system for a few years?

I would suggest going for the Coolermaster 850watt becoz at a later stage ur going to upgrade and therefore require more power so just to be on the safe side i would recommend that :)

Using the CoolerMaster 650W = Forget about it, won't happen

A System like yours with a GTX275 alone uses 210W on Avg settings and would peak round about 410W using resolutions like 1900x1200 4xAA 8xAF

CM 650W is +- 70% effecient, so true power rating would be +-450W.
CM 850W is +- 85% effecient, so True Power rating would be +- 620W.

Now this is all fine and well and pretty borderline if you think about it.
But also a very important factor is how power does ur 12V+ supply you? 12A? 18A?

If your power is not enough to ur Gfx screen it would just get stuck @ POST. Or even worse, it would work fine for a few minutes into a game and suddenly crash. This also causes long term effects and could lead to permanent damage to ur system components

You would be safe using the CM850W for good awhile guaranteed.
And don't be sad about the price, your already spending so much building a computer. Do not be cheap about it a go buy a Generic PSU. You will regret it.

And besides,my PSU was R3.200 when i bought it, so be glad ;)

Yeah I understand that getting a good quality PSU makes a huge difference, but trust me, I would NEVER go for a generic PSU, I aint that stupid :)

You could try an Antec TruePower 750W. Its about +-R1100. Depending where u look, might even get it cheaper somewhere else. But that would be a good choice too.

Problem is, as soon as you go over the 750W threshold prices double basically :/

with my setup they want to give me a coolmaster 460w... retards!

Your pc would peak round about 390W. So it would be very borderline ur PSU. Go for a Antec 750W or CM 750W :)
