Problem is, and go ask around the community, that half the players playing ZA1 and 2 have horrible lag. This is either server performance itself, or ISP related, I would'nt know. ZA3 and 4 are smooth as silk. Heck, it's even discussed on the Dayz South Africa Reddit page.
Then again, it's been a while since my group has played on Za1 or 2 so this could have been rectified by now, we pretty much only play Lingor now.
All the people who join pls remember to make sure you know the lyrics to Rebecca Black, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber etc songs! Ask Lyt for help, I think he knows it now :)Quote:

So many local DayZ servers atm. Really do sux with the number of players we have. People are just spread to thin and the stupid sniper campers with their AS50 TWS's in the cities are not helping the community one bit.
What we actually need I think is ISP's to drop servers and have @ most 1 server each and no Regular crap ones either.
Or one proper private hive server for all the legit players to gather and play on. Something like the Byrgesen Gaming Community.

Yeah, in the beginning ZA1 and ZA3 had 25-30 players on it at all times about, now with all the servers, people spread out too much.
I still stand with my point though. Remove the ability to store ANY sniper rifles in tents and vehicles, a small change like this would go a very very long way in the long run.
Also I see some people mentioned a new script that detects TWS and other illegal guns. If this works, it would be awesome.
We removed all the L85s from Lingor a few days back, because it was getting a bit out of hand. Anyone running with an L85 pretty much dominated the server at night.
@Maplassie Yes dude, I wish the isp's/admins could work together and sort something out. As it stands now things are starting to look sad and people are not really experiencing DayZ as it should be. I agree on the tents etc comment and if scripts can keep our servers clean from TWS's it would be great!

I mean at frag lan this last weekend i met a guy who talked to me about dayz and how I mustn't join a specific server because they will kill me. The reason given after i asked him why was like all the other dbag clowns playing DayZ:
"Because we can".
He told me of a story of a guy who apparently killed him, and then they hunted him down as a group (even though he plainly said it wasnt due to revenge because the player killed him when he called freindly the first time), cornered him in a field and then forced him to drop his kit or be killed. He then went on and said they told him they would not kill him if he sang a justin bieber song over voice chat and only after i started calling him and his bunch of tools a few choice names did he say if he sang he would have been given a GPS.
now correct me if im wrong, but the GPS is CRAZY hard to find... and now they are giving them out to random players if they sing or do some other wildly immature act? Im sorry but that is just plain wrong for 2 reasons:
1) being its a GPS... more than likely duped.
2) besides the fact that you as a player have stooped to a level that surpasses douchebaggery, how freaking immature? My 8 year old sister has more integrity as a human being and she is the definition of a hellspawn on most days.
I asked if he and his group of misfits dupe items. He said they store stuff in tents and when they take stuff out it all just comes back after a server restart, therefore its not his or his team mates fault, they merely capitalize on server error.
While yes its server error, they are clearly duping and have no problem duping GPSes, AS50s and L85s :/

While I agree with some things I also think you should really relax a bit and just wait for that standalone (thou I'm sure it will have it's issues also).
I think making ppl sing and then giving them a map or something (it just happens that a GPS is not rare anymore) is quite funny and far better than sitting on a bigass city buildings just sniping all bambies.
Just about anything other than just shooting anything you see is cool by me. I also do not see how you can blame the player for just playing the game. Its really not his fault that the tents do not save, but rather the sad state of an Alpha Mod atm. People just do what they need to keep up with the rest.
I myself prefer to go find my gear and run into fights in the forests or ambush some ppl etc. Way more intense when that does happen.
One thing is for sure. Most people atm do not get to experience what DayZ is actually about and they will get a big reality check when the standalone comes.
I think most of the current issues can be solved by a nicely edited & configured Private Hive server. Something I'd love to look at getting up if there would be enough ppl to support it.

To be honest, listening to what everyone is saying, I really don't think I'd enjoy play DayZ if I started up again now. Back when I played, people didn't even use tents. If people wanted weapons, they went on the gun-runner route, Med tents at Balota -> Balota Airfield -> Stary Sobor -> NWAF. If you died, you went looking for new weapons.
Now everyone has giant tent cities and if someone dies it seems they just run back to their tents and get all their equipment back. It entirely misses the point of the game and, in my opinion, kind of ruins it too. Heck, back when I last played having a vehicle was something that only happened when you were incredibly lucky, and then it was a giant mission just keeping a hold of it.
The game is nothing like when I played. I can't presume to speak for anyone else, but it sounds anything but fun to me. Sounds more like one of the core features was somehow lost along the way, which is that death actually held penalties for the player and was a real issue.

@Graal yes it is kinda sad atm when you think back. The way the game has changed with all this is massive. You adapt and still try to find fun from it. My team have tried to not use tents etc atm but with the other ppl around it does not work so well. Also they should completely clamp down the storage limits of tents and vehicles in general. You should be able to store a maximum of let's say 2 rifles, a handgun and some supplies in there.
This will bring the game back to it's roots so to speak. I remember when we first started playing the game. When it was pitch black darkness, you would run for ages until you found a landmark, then make your way to places at a snails pace while leopardcrawling all over the show and using up about 50 tonnes of Roadflares, just to get a Winchester and a waterbottle and think JACKPOT. Whenever you saw players your heart would start pumping, and you would hide away etc.
This, this is what DayZ should be. Now you die and you don't give a fuck, just ran back to the tents and gear up again!

It's no use for NAG to continue running an official Chernarus server if nobody wants to play on it due to the rampant hacking and duping going on. Seeing as we've already got a private hive it's no big issue adding a second server to the hive. At this point we're pretty much at a crossroads, because the official server sees very little activity and Lingor Island doesn't have the same staying power that Chernarus has.

I'm not following you. How about we/you think about the community and lets get one nicely run normal DayZ private hive server that gets a decent population there before even thinking of adding another one (and no its not me putting up a server, I just know about it) You are just trying to add to the problem that we already have on the normal hive servers...
I'd rather have people deciding about playing on normal DayZ or Lingor according to how they feel instead of have 10 people on a Chernarus Private Server, 8 on another Chernarus Private Server and 9 other on the Lingor Private Server etc.
I do not think Nag's only problem is the hacking and duping, but if you really do not want to think about this as an SA DayZ Community issue then I guess no one can stop you from running a private hive server for Nag regulars...
It should not be about " it's no big issue adding" It's about what is best for the local community at this point and moving forward. That might well change and another private hive server, maybe even connected might become viable at a later stage
I am thinking of the community, and I don't see it as being an issue at all. If people want to play on a single server, they are going to play there. If they want to play on a high population server, they will join one server. People play where they want to.
Besides, what makes multiple private servers so much different to multiple official servers?
I honestly don't see why this needs to be a competition? If people don't want to play on a NAG private Chernarus server, then they won't. But they will have the choice.

Anyway, nothing is set in stone and I don't feel like arguing here over something that has only ever come under consideration and isn't even decided yet. I never said we were going to switch to private, only that it's something I've been considering for some time.
Right now, I'm pretty busy with university and Matthew is probably getting ready for rAge (lucky bastard), so we can't do anything for the moment anyway. In two weeks time we should have time to look at it again to see how the implementation would work, so it's useless squabbling about it for now. Maybe we decide to do it, maybe we don't. Heck, maybe the Fallujah map is in a better state by then and we decide to rather use that. By then I assume the other ISP's server should be up, so we can see how things go from there then.
Zoopy... if you guys get the chernarus private server/hive whatever going, ill be there :D

LimpNoodle, could you please stop saying we're not running the server properly, because to be frank, you're talking nonsense. When I asked you privately, via PM, what your concerns regarding the administration of the server was, you told me possible admin abuse, which I've addressed by removing certain admin tools that could be used for abuse, and your only other reason amounted to "I don't really know, it's just this feeling I've got."
I'm trying my utmost best here to deal with the community's concerns regarding our server, but I can't do that if you're continuously telling me there's something wrong with our management but you somehow don't even know what your concerns are yourself.
I think you're blowing this whole thing way out of proportion and turning it into a giant 'who can get the most players' contest. I ask you, once again, I NAG had set up a private Chernarus server two weeks ago, would this 'other ISP' have backed out and not set theirs up? I'm going to assume the likely answer is no. And that's fine, because it's a non-issue.
If people want to play on a server with a high population, they're going to join a server with a high population. People are not sheep who need to be herded.
Your entire argument rests on the idea that you're scared having more than one server is going to lead to players playing where they want and not where you want them to play.

I do believe I said there was some really dodgy shit going on, but that was long ago. I have really not been playing there much, but I have now and then played as a friendly on Lingor and helped out the regular guys there.
I'm saying Nag's rep have changed since it was my home server as I've heard the same things from different ppl. Now I'm sorry that I am the person with a voice and not afraid to speak up. It does sort of put a spotlight on me for the person actually coming out and saying these things, so I'm a bit careful of getting banned for speaking my mind, which does seem to happen.

But that is not the point here for me. I'm afraid that a bunch of private hives will just split the DayZ player base as its split with the normal hive ones. And with private hives its very, very different to move from one server to another.
We hardly ever see more than 15 people on a server as there is so many. This gives a totally different experience to DayZ here in SA vs the rest of the world.
Am I so wrong to want 1 decently run, full server instead of splitting ppl up? This will definitely happen.
Once again, we've addressed all concerns regarding admin abuse. Other than that, I am still waiting for you to give me another concrete reason for why there are 'issues' with the way the server is run.
We do not ban people for speaking their mind. I am well aware that you are referring to Akurei here, seeing as even in that you opposed our decision to ban him. Akurei was a troublemaker right off the bat. He stirred trouble in the forums, then he stirred trouble on the server. He also lied to me about incidents on the server, twice. Then to top it all off, he went to another forum, called the NAG admins fags and insulted the entire NAG playerbase. I am sorry if you don't see why we thought it necessary to ban him, but we do not want troublemakers like him on our server. We actually agreed to lift his ban a week ago, provided he provides an apology to the NAG playerbase. This has yet to be done.
