HD5870 worlds fastest graphics card, local pricing revealed
HD5850 seems like an excellent buy :D
Agreed Gradius. The 5850 is looking like the better buy. After reading the reviews on Anandtech and HardOCP I am slightly underwhelmed by the 5870's performance. I think when nVidias cards eventually show up, they are going to thoroughly trounce AMDs offering.
oh my fn word R2699 retail !!! am I dreaming or something?
HD5850 is between the price of a HD4870 and HD4890. This is an excellent choice for a new gfx card :)
First time in a while ATI .. er.. AMD might actually sway me from Nvidia
But I'm only thinking of an upgrade late next year, so lets see what happens
Top end GT300 GPU are confirmed as $699 on some sites :)
They'd be crazy to release it at that price. Not with the 5870 lurking around.
Definitely going to get one of these cards! R2699 is a very good price for the specs on that 5850
5870 is on http://www.landmarkpc.co.za/store/ for R4923
Landmark must be importing it them selves. Good for them, but that price is R900 above what AMD SA have quoted as SA's official RRP.
Ill have a look when i upgrade my PC next year. @ of these babies will do nicely.
The 5850 looks like the card to buy.
Tinman, you allowed to tell us now how the card performs that u got 'given'? :D
Are there any 5850 benchies out yet...?

As it stands there are very few of there cards out in the wild, so for a while prices will be inflated. The 5850 is only out sometime next week, so expect review between now and then.
here we go.pic is pretty damn big so be warned. Resoundly kicks nVidia into the dust :p

Landmark says for the 5850:
This product will be in stock on Monday, 28. September 2009.
I am an Nvidia fan, but seriously am excited for these cards.
I wont be jumping at these new beast-like cards just yet :D Due to the slow adoption of Dx11 in games (based on history). I am hopeful to see those prices but history has taught me one thing with regards to pricing in this country, “don’t hold your breath”, so I have my doubts the 5850 will retail for R2700, I estimate a more realistic R3000 after all, this is Africa :P
I don’t mean to bash the article, but I will eat my shorts if they do retail for R2700 and R4000 respectively :D
You will most probably be able to get the HD5870 for R4000 at rAge, so if you want one then that is the place.
In general the performance is what I expected from AMD. I am hesitant to publish benchies using the beta drivers, would rather wait a bit for at least some driver maturity, it just seems like a better approach to me. The HD 5870 is about as fast as the HD4870X2, and maybe a little slower than the GTX295. I am hoping that improved drivers will nudge it up slightly.
Are you allowed to post benchmarks? I mean besides the Beta driver issues

currently on a 8800GT these look like a monster upgrade from that!
Thats what I'm in need of! The "Do not dusturb, I'm gaming" door thingy. (forgot what they are called)
Door knob memo/message thingum :p
Nice long review:)

screw the gtx285 I was gonna get!
yip why spend so much money on a card thats not even dx11 capable when you can spend less and get all the latest features. screw Physx and all that jazz, Dx11 has got that covered.
exactlty! I want it now!
hopefully the prices will drop when im ready to buy it.
I just have to wait like 1 month to order my rig, once I'm settled in the UK I'l, order it... I was going for the GTX285 but now I'm going for that! I've never been so determined for a card!
Actually I still love my 8800GT, it still performs well.
