Depending on the size of the bird - small bird - no - since he would have used some petrol to get to the halfway point.
Big bird - not sure?

It's the only thing that makes sense to me :P But as I said I don't know the size of the bird - small like sparrow wont weigh more than 30grams, so that is less than the fuel weight used for 1km. (or it seems like it in my head :P)
@staggerlee - no freaking clue - its a guestimate :P
You are a cook in a remote area with no clocks or other way of keeping time other than a four-minute and a seven-minute hourglass. On the stove is a pot of boiling water. Susan asks you to cook a nine-minute egg in exactly 9 minutes, and you know she is a perfectionist and can tell if you undercook or overcook the egg by even a few seconds. How can you cook the egg for exactly 9 minutes?
The question about the sparrow's origin was a Monty Python reference :D
As for the new question: Start both timers at the same time. when the four minute timer runs out. Start the egg immediately and immediately turn the 4 minute timer back over. Let the seven minute timer finish (3 mins) at which point, turn over the 4 minute timer and the seven minute timer again. The 4 minute timer will take another three minutes to finish, at which point turn the 7 minute timer over again and it will run for the last three minutes when you can take the egg off. (3 mins + 3 mins + 3 mins = 9 mins)
Bwahahaha sorry and here I am a huge monty python fan, but that one went over my head - but the reminder brought it back :P
And correct staggerlee!

Three people go to spend the night at a hotel. They pay for a $30 dollar room, each giving $10 for their share. When they go to their room, however, the manager realizes that the room is on sale for $25, and gives $5 to the bagboy to return to the guests. The bagboy goes to give back the five dollars, and when he does, the guests take it, but give the bagboy $2 as a tip, thereby keeping one dollar each for themselves. However, one of the guests is disturbed, remarking, "Hey, we each spent 9 dollars just now, since we got one back, which means $27 total, right? Plus the $2 we gave the bagboy, that's only $29! Where's the extra dollar?"
Explain.
ah man! I knew this one!
They didn't spend $27 + $2, they spent $27, which includes the $2 they gave the bagboy.
Ok Eugene is still sleeping.
