Overclocking

Hello :) just wanted to get some more information on this matter.

I dont consider myself a noob at overclocking but would like to find out.

Is it possible to get to 6GHz with any sandy bridge cpu without exotic cooling.
I personally have got mine to a maximum of 5GHz and couldnt go any further.

Another question could this be done with a H60 closed loop watercooling system.

Personally i dont think it is even close to possible without LN2 cooling.

But maybe someone can tell me otherwise :)

Good job with the 5GHz overclock!

As for the 6GHz overclock... I don't think so. The Voltages will probably get too high. Google a bit and see if anyone reached it with water cooling. I doubt if fan cooling could go to 6GHz... But hey, I could be wrong, maybe there is a guy on the net that got it right! Don't know how long the CPU is going to hold if you're able to hit that magic number! Keep us updated if you found something and managed to do it!

Just came across this!!

I do quite a bit of overclocking and I can tell you now 6Ghz on air or water is impossible, maybe for a few minutes but at that voltage and those temps the chips degrade in minutes.

Safe range is between 4.5Ghz and 5Ghz, nothing more.
After that you start needing phase or ln2 cooling and its only really suitable for benching for short periods of time.

I still dont believe u can get anywhere close to 6GHz. Your tempreatures will be so high that it would just die. Idle temperatures will be through the roof at 6GHz..

For me to get to 5GHz i has to set voltage to 1.4 which is a hell of a lot

I am actually purchasing an H100i soon, my PC room is damn hot, and the CPU was at 98' Celsius the other day after a 3 hour FarCry3 session...

Will see how this changes the temps... Will als move the top extractor fan then to create some ar flow over the GPU, that was at 80degrees... :(

Any suggestions?
