I had just occurred to me that these bugs were probably only noticed now when they started receiving data and feedback since release.
If Maxis could have done a staggered beta release, these little things could have been ironed out before massive roll out, not to mention server capacity issues.
They actually did have beta tests, which is what makes this so puzzling. I'm pretty sure Geoff Burrows from NAG Magazine was in on the beta, but I might be mistaking him for someone else.
As far as I know, each beta session was limited to one hour, making it difficult to identify issues like this which only show themselves after a few hours of play. If they had increased the allowed time in the beta it probably would have been ironed out before release.
Well, that's just downright dumb. A game that by its very nature is designed to be played for hours on end has 1-hour beta tests?
So so stupid! I have no idea but it just makes me mad. I've been looking forward to this game for months and this whole thing has turned into a fiasco. Now the AI seems to be broken, great, one step forward, one step back. Maxis needs to fix this quick so I can throw my money at their face.
Pathfinding is just the tip of the iceberg. Here's a neat video of how retarded traffic can be when returning home.
