I took the picture from BenchmarkReviews to show you the main visual difference between GTX 680 and GTX 770 models.


First up, let’s talk about the specifications. In comparison to GTX 680 Lightning (1110/1176 MHz), the GTX 770 model comes with a higher clocks (1150/1202 MHz for base and boost respectively). Of course the 770 also comes with a higher memory clock as well — 1753 MHz. Technically speaking, we are just looking at a new GPU (by new I mean a new label) and faster memory modules. The GTX 770 also supports GPU Boost 2.0. I’ve described the specifications of the GTX 770 in greater detail in my previous post.

The PCB is packed with so many components, that MSI decided to develop something known as GPU Reactor. The GPU Reactor is a add-on mini board with additional tantalum capacitors. It is installed on the back of the card and covered by a round blue object with MSI logo. The functionality of this device is pretty straightforward, it stabilizes the current, thus increases the power capacity and eliminates power noise.

If these benchmarks turns out to be legit, I am from now on referring to Nvidia as the new Apple.
Launching a "new" range of cards that are barely faster than the previous gen cards while costing a lot more($480-$550 apparently).

Seriously...Greedy bastards.

But didn't we already know that the 770 was just a rebranded 680?

This is pretty much the same as AMD's move from 5xxx to 6xxx. They refined the product rather than focusing on big performance jumps. It ended up actually being confusing because people don't know why a 6850/70 should perform worse than a 5850/70. It doesn't mean anything in terms of Nvidia suddenly becoming evil though.

Actually it does, the 5870 was way more expensive than the 6870 even more expensive than the 6950.
This is a shameless re-brand with a much higher price, I would call that apple like and apple is evil..lol

They did exactly the same with the 9800gtx+ being rebranded as the GTS250. But the 250 was a superior card to the gtx+ because of its size and thermals. Benchmarks don't care about whether a card is basically the same PCB and GPU - they could have created a brand new GPU and if it had the same results it wouldn't make an ounce of difference. Anyway it is actually faster and has upgraded components. You're just whining.

And who says the 770 is going to be pricier than the 680 exactly? Do you have a source for that?

lol Mate I know you haven't been all that active so you probably don't know me..so I'll let that slide ;)
I actually have my own IT company (Hardware and software solutions) and I build custom gaming and home theater pc's for a living, I also deal with all local and quite a few international distributors/suppliers.

I get most new hardware before anyone else in SA, thanx to a few contacts and rich clients :D

For example, I have sitting here in front of me 2x Haswell boards, I also have a gtx770 on the way from Taiwan.
Had a Asus Titan day of release and so on and so forth.

Oh and I know you from Carbonite lol ;)

Edit: Back on topic. You can expect them to start at $480 - $550.

Joker just out of a matter of interest I noticed with the benchmarks they always use premium builds, I presume that is to extract as much out of the card as possible but down the line when more advanced tech comes out do you think that these cards will be able to keep up much or for the mid range cards do they use a system that already squeezes everything out of it?

Exactly the same reason I am sitting with a couple of monster machines, most notably a top end AMD machine and a Top end Sandy bridge E machine. Just to run on the best, as you know cpu's don't affect gaming all that much, its only now that we're starting to see games making use of more than 2 cores, Games like BF3, Crysis 3, Metro Last light and so on.

Great example of this is Crysis 3. When the game launched the i5 3570K, AMD FX8350 and I7 3770K were neck and neck while running a GTX680. All sitting on the exact same fps. After update 1.3 the 3570K and FX8350 are still pretty much deadlocked but the i7 3770K gained a massive 15fps over those 2 cpu's.

Its pretty much just to run the best hardware out there and to get the best possible results.
There are people out there that believe a i3 3220 will actually bottleneck a GTX660TI or a 7950, that's why you also rarely see benchmark reviews with mid range cpu's or low range cpu's.

Edit: Maybe I am being a little mean towards Nvidia, I was actually looking for 15-20% increase from these cards but I should have known that a re-badge with new memory and slightly faster boost clocked wouldn't have brought huge performance increases.
