Day of Defeat

Hey everybody

I have always wondered what happened to Day of Defeat/Day of Defeat Source in South Africa and thought i would start this thread in order to get people comments as to why the community died

What exactly put you off Day of Defeat !?

I for one, couldnt get enough of DOD since it came on the scene. now that dod/dods is dead i find myself trying international servers to the dismay of constant kicking off the servers.. so lame!

How many of you guys use to play dod/dods and what were your reasons for leaving the community?

I just never really tried the game myself, and i guess the scene died before i could give it a go.

Geez, DoD 1.0 was my first serious online game! 33.6k modem 4tw! :P

As to what happened to the community, it's actually really simple. People got bored. They got bored with 1.3 around the time DoD:S was due to make it's appearance. Everyone sort of vanished for 3-4 months, then Source appeared on the scene. People came back to try it, and promptly left again. The DoD:S that valve allowed released was a piece of s***. Honestly. Totally changed the game, when in fact people didn't want it changed. After about 3 months of DoD:S, people just left.

These days, after a load of patches, the game is a huge amount better, but still just not as fun as DoD 1.3 was.

The reason I left the community (I haven't really, still post on the SGS boards) was simply because no one else played. I was happy to put up with the initial s***** port, but i guess no one else was.

It's a great pity that DoD died, because it's honestly the best community I've come across in all my time gaming. The admins and players were mature, there was very little smack talk and people just enjoyed the game. I still miss the *Boom* *clink* *reload* sound the K98 made :(

In truth I've heard of it but I have no idea what it is. I felt the same way about the SA TeeWorlds server that was busy for a couple of weeks and then everyone just stopped playing.

Quite a shame the game died,i really enjoyed it.

Been a long time mate! Yeah the community was great and that was one of the main reasons why i continued to enjoy dod for so long. I will agree with you that dods wasnt a step in the right direction. I still enjoyed playing though, even more so then i ever enjoyed playing CS

man i miss those days. I would do anything to be able to play locally again, but guess nothing you can do if people dont take to it anymore.

guess all we can do is hope that someday they will release a new dod that was as fun or ever better then 1.3 was.

i never ever had as much fun in a game as i did with dod lol..

f0x and i would def be keen on playing again.. perhaps it would be possible to get a few people back and see what happens !? would you been keen green orb !?

What they really need to do with DoDS is make it an exact port of 1.3. Just on the source engine. Keep the weapon dynamics the same, keep the loadouts the same, keep the damage and recoil figures the same. Pretty gfx make people happy. And give us decent new maps. Lots of new, standard maps.

It won't happen though, so we'll have to play dods as it is now.

I'm still keen for a game or two, there is actually a post on the SGS forums about it. Maybe we can organise a game or three for a date in the future :)

Is there a DOD Source out?!
OK so I am a bit out of the loop on Source but I loved the it on 1.6.
PM me a few download links and I will organize it to be downloaded on a local FTP.
Will even see if I can't get a server up. (Long shot)
But let me know and I will see what we can do.
