Steam issues

Anyone else having issues with steam since the last update 6th may 13?

Mine kept trying to install a 1,185Kb update then wants to restart, I tried a repair install did not work, then I did a clean install and steam couldn't even start up because it had to update, i then used a previous version from Thursday it updated to the new version restarted and now wants to download a 1.3mb file the whole time.

I though maybe it was avast at one stage but it looks like steam screwed up something somewhere.

You're lucky, I regularly have to download a file in excess of 60mb for some reason.

Same. Although I think its EVERY time I start steam I have to wait for a update.

Every two days I get a "your steam needs to restart" for a update. It's the same update since June 6. Seems to be a fix for the bug that we are currently experiencing.

Okay that's the one im getting its like a 1.3mb update right? my friends isn't doing that for some reason. What anti virus are you guys using?

call me paranoid but this issue seems to coincide with me installing avast, could just be a coincidence though

You're lucky yours is every 2 days, I'm getting that several times in 1 day :/

Had Avast install for years now, and never had a problem with it.

Haven't had many problems with Steam other than it wanting to update nearly every day.

Could be that you guys are registered for the Client Beta.

Steam->Settings->Account->Beta Participation
Opt out of all betas and see if that helps.

Otherwise there have been issues with Steam updates and anti-virus software. But that was back in March.

Mine is doing it. Windows Defender. Not Beta

I ended up swapping to BETA and now it only updates at first load (as it should for beta)

I'm fiddling with various installs and repairs at my office with this thing will let you guys know what i find out

Okay so it's not just me! ...or the OP...

can everyone tell me what os and if its 32 or 64bit that they are using. i Just did a clean install with and without avast on a 32bit win7 pro and its fine. even tried swapping between beta, much to my dissapointment i cant break it, so im going to see if i can try the same on 64bit

So, its working just fine on my windows 8 64bit, in fact i also tried putting the 6th may 13 version on the pc and have it update which at my house updates then wants to do the mini update the whole time.

Perhaps they fixed something since yesterday,going to try a clean install again at home tonight and see what happens, otherwise im going to copy this working one over and see if it breaks... mmm this kind of thing drives me nuts.

Update 2:
Okay so despite my best efforts I cant get this thing to break, I recall at some point avast flag a registry edit yet on the 2 pc's at my office it has not done this once, also when i uninstalled and reinstalled steam never asked to authenticate with steam guard yet at my office both pc's do this every time.

Im going to remove steam and all valve Registry keys and see what happens.

Update 3:

So my pc Is updating windows, Its updating because I Formated it, this issue is like a cursed ring stuck on its finger forever mocking it a blight that can't be undone.

In any case if you copy the contents of the steam folder excluding steamapps form a 32bit or 64bit system respectively then it works, the question is will it work when they push a new update, this is a risk my ocd won't take, so if anyone else wants to do this and then let me know (really i want to know) then please do.

Anyway a 2 year run without a format isn't so bad i guess its time

any takers???
