Well, I've cancelled my pre-order from BT Games. Will wait and see what happens. There's a small hope inside me that everything will work itself out.
I think he's got a point...if they want to screw honest PC buyers like this then I hope this game gets pirated to the ceiling. So yeah...let him pirate it...serves them right. At NO POINT have honest PC Gamers been rewarded...so why defend a system that no longer caters for honesty? Stuff them...PIRATE IT.
Hate to point it out, but when an absurd DRM type system comes out, the community actually retaliates by pirating for the sake of proving a point - EG: Spore.
weather it's right or wrong, it's something the publishers need to take note of. Personally, I'd say save the money and buy a product (wait... with the price increase you could buy 2 products) that actually keep to a standard you want to support. What annoys corporates more than piracy is you giving your money to someone else. Explain why your product is doing so poorly while a competitor's is doing so well is alot harder than just blaming piracy.
Already sounds like this is gonna be the most pirated game of all time... ALL TIME. Knowmean! :D
Everyone on this thread was willing to buy this game until:
1. They made a drastic change which they knew noone would support, out of simple greed.
2. They refused to take notice of the community uproar.
3. They DELETED the threads on their own forums protesting the decision.
4. They basically told their own customers to go fsck themselves.
So yeah, I will pirate this, and so will everyone else. Because none of us want to support this developer, and what's an even better way of not doing that than simply not buying it? Piracy.
If the developer is going to simply do what they want, without taking into account THE VERY PEOPLE WHO THEY ARE DESIGNING THE GAME FOR, then they must expect retaliation.
Basically, the whole community right now wants to make an example of IW, so that stuff like this stops happening.
If only they'd learnt a lesson from Spore.
The bottom line is, the developer themselves have turned potential buyers into pirates, and it's their own damned fault.
