It's self-entitlement, and nothing more. While I acknowledge that there are legitimate concerns about the matchmaking service (the lack of local server support is a serious problem, for example), the fact is that 90 000 gamers are behaving like a bunch of spoilt brats who are angry because they're not getting their way.

Like it or not, Activision / Infinity Ward must have some reason for trying to make this change. Let's not forget that, ultimately, both companies are businesses, not blow job dispensers.

Don't misunderstand some gamers Anger at this as a sign that they saying they are going to pirate it, or at least off of them. However lets face facts, piracy on this titles is going to be higher than normal. I know for a fact that alot of the really hardcore guyz wont pirate the game, they will just keep playing COD4 and if thats taken away they will move into Day of Defeat Source or BF2 or something else. Yes Activision and Infinity Ward are businesses and need to make money and in any retail environment you have to listen what your customers what. Imagine if Mc Donalds Started selling fruit salad tomorrow, they would loose millions. Now this is the same, a company (IW) which have catered to the Competitive community for year now out of the blue change a concept which has worked brilliantly thus far. They give no reason for this, so yes we, the gaming community, are angry about this.

What about the self-entitlement of publishers and developers that think that they can act like nazis with their "intellectual property", to the point that they actually ruin the gaming experience?

Being angry and being a bunch of self-entitled brats making unequivocal demands of a company are two different things. Also, things change. People need to deal with it. I can't help thinking a huge part of this is just a self-serving knee-jerk reaction to what the PC community sees as a "console feature". Honestly, it's not exactly the end of the world. Gamers really are the biggest bunch of whiners on the planet where everything isn't catered 100% specifically for them.

I'm not sure how no dedicated srvers = Call of Duty not being a great game regardless. We're talking about one aspect of the multiplayer section, not the whole product. And the impact of that remains very debatable.

It's their product. This company invested all their money in producing it, so they get to call the shots. Kinda like, you know, any other company that produces any other product.

And ruining the gaming experience? That's a bit dramatic. This system has been working perfectly well on console for years. Concerns about local servers notwithstanding, I'm still not at all convinced this is such a terrible thing at all.

I'm sure the developers had something to do with the "code-heavy" IW.net project.

I don't really care either way, developer or publisher it makes no difference to me. These are the facts:

1. The party responsible did it to get more money.

2. The party who made the decision is thus the one who stands to make money from game sales.

3. Pirating the game would hurt that party.

If there is some collateral damage (i.e. the developer) then so be it. It's their fault for being a corporate puppet and not looking after the best interests of the gamers.

But as has been said, I think there's no way that this was purely a publisher's decision.

Also Azimuth, I think everyone is a little tired of your anti-piracy war which you wage in every forum that even mentions it. You're de-railing this thread. It's about consumer unhappiness - and the methods we are choosing to deal with it. We get it, you don't agree with those methods.

Your input has been noted, there's no need to discuss that aspect further. If you wish to do so, rather start a new thread; let's try stay on topic from now on please.

Its easy to say "its not exactly the end of the world" when it doesn't directly affect you. Alot of these guyz eat, breath and sleep COD, yes you could go on about how lame that is and they need to get lives but at the end of the day thats their problem. If this something that directly affected you gameplay mechanism of choice, something that you have to have i suspect we would be hearing a different story.

I see no reason to buy this game anymore. -1 sale from me.

Dedicated servers are #1 reason I buy all my multiplayer games for the PC. Xbox live is just horrible in comparison.

I knew MW2 was too good to be true. I worried they'd find some way to completely fuck it up. Oh well, at least we'll have the singleplayer... Unless they suddenly require us to play with a fucking 360 controller.

exactly what dedicated servers bring; quality of service vs every tom dick and jan's p2p server depended on their hardware and connection. however i have to say in xlive's defense that the last title i did a coop in went along without any issues and o had endless fun in gow2.
